All Ireland Football Final - An Classico

I was firmly in the Kerry camp and even invested in a Kingdom bucket hat but I met some very nice Dublin support throughout the day. That was tarnished a bit of course by a few buffoons in front of me roaring abuse at Clifford and David Gough. The booing of the ref after the game was quite unsavoury for a winning support base.

It took david gough to stand up to the clifford propaganda machine. I expect more refs will follow suit.
Clifford is finished

yep, Gough smoked him that time he cheated to win a free which ended up being a throw ball

If anything gough smoked dublin by bringing the ball up the field. The ball was nowhere near the dubser goal. Ultimately it didn’t matter because clifford was further smoked in the throw in…despite his clear height advantage and alleged fielding ability

If anything the ref favoured the Dubs. It was probably soccer fans like @Little_Lord_Fauntleroy and @Juhniallio calling for handball.

We need to distance our campaign from your negative approach. You will bring us all down.

would be gas to see them smoked at the awards ceremony

McGuigan smoked the cunts

Wouldn’t be like him.

Con is the most overrated footballer I’ve ever seen

The fall out in Kerry over Winter will be something else. Even Tomas o Se’s first comments after the game were to anoint Fitzsimons MOTM which would be an even bigger kick in the Balls for Clifford. O Se was one of the first to defend Paul Flynn in his comments about Clifford getting “smoked” too although he does work alongside him. All those Dublin lads riding off into the sunset filled to the brim with AI medals and no Kerry team over the last decade could really land a blow in a final or when all the main protagonists were on stage. Kerry ultimately did a Mayo on it. 3 points up at 2 different stages in that 2nd half. Couldn’t see it out. The parallels with 2011 were uncanny. I was up there to see Tipp win the minor AI and right behind that Cluxton kick. Declan O Sullivan with a carbon copy of Gavin Whites intercepted handpass when they were cruising and up by 4. A rush of blood to the head by BJ Keane provided de Coup de Grace. It ends, both days, with a Dublin player procrastinating over a free in injury time with valuable seconds fading away and with Joe McQuillin and David Gough calling for full time before Kerry could launch one last Hail Mary. Gilroy must have felt a major sense of Déjà vu on Sunday. Both games were slowburners on dank grey days. As the fella says history never repeats itself but it sure does rhyme.

It will be sickening for Kerry supporters as the noughties were characterised by Northern teams like Armagh and especially Tyrone grinding them down and only all Irelands Kerry could win were of the less vintage variety v’s Mayo and Cork (no offence to Cork I know they won one in 2010). Then the noughties finish and they run into a juggernaut for next 13 years. Most of those Dublin players that have 8 and 9 AI medals kickstarted their dynasty with a win over Kerry in 2011 and now they are bookending their careers with another monumental win in a period where Kerry should be building their own dynasty. Its not beyond bounds that Clifford would still be looking for his first had a lot of those players made themselves available last year. This will sicken Kerry to the core. They could just never get one over the Dubs and now the feats of some of those Kerry greats of the 80s have been surpassed.

Its hard to begrudge this Dublin team although I would have loved to have seen Mayo lower their colours at some stage over the last decade when they were really in their pomp. The way they have conducted themselves since, magnanimous gestures in victory (easy to do I know), no airs or graces, pints of Guinness at press conferences, plain speaking, Couple of bag pipe players leading players into Ballymun, Temple street, proper banquet, Jack McCaffreys celebration. They uphold the traditions of the game. Ultimately Kerry lacked a Lee Keegan. Someone with the clutch gene. Yes they have Clifford but if things don’t click the potency isn’t there. They have no dog of war or game breaker really like a Keegan. They missed a trick by not keeping O Brien in reserve for when McCaffrey came on. O Brien was never really going to effect the game early doors but might have brought energy in the 50th minute when limbs were beginning to tighten. Dublin had many willing players looking to roll the dice. Colm Basquel could have deferred to likes of Mannion or O Callaghan on occasion but he wanted to seize his moment. Too often Kerry were playing percentages when trying to engineer openings for Clifford when they should have been trying to seize their own destiny. Fortune will always smile gently on the brave though and when the clock hit 70 the muscle memory clicked into gear for Dublin and there was only going to be one winner.

Ah stop, it’ll be no different to any other year they dont win Sam. Let go of the pearls there son.

Kerry get to All Ireland Finals. They win some. They lose some.

But they’ll continue to get to them. And they’ll continue to talk football. Because thats what they do.

Kerry beat Cork in 07 because they knocked out the dubs. Same last year, they defeated the dubs and were rewarded with a lesser opponent who they beat, unlike Mayo in 21.

Comparing Mayo with Kerry is just hilarious.

Kerry are refuced to the soft ones nowadays. It’ll hurt.

They wont give a fuck. Same as they never give a fuck. They’ll bring them in warm. Or bring them in cold. But they’ll continue to bring them in.

if fitzsimons retires, smoking clifford will be a great legacy & it will always be held against clifford

I was watching Countdown yesterday and the correct use of myriad is without “of” according to Susie Dent

So it would be a myriad distraction.

I should have logged it in The things I learned today thread
