He was dropped from the panel at the time. Cody brought him back in for the 1999 season but Fennelly didn’t want him for whatever reason.
Power, whilst the greatest hurler Callan has ever produced and has the medals to back that up is a character that is difficult to deal with. You wouldn’t know what went on or what was said between himself and Fennelly at the time but that’s me assuming.
Come on now, Anthony Masterson has only been whinging about that winning pointed free in the Round 4 Football qualifier since 2011.
And who’d blame him.
That’s actually embarrassing. Funny though…
I don’t want to labour but RTE has been abysmal in this . Tonight they are showing the 2004 Munster final .
It was a poor game. On viewing a couple of weeks ago you could see there were many bad wides and mishits. The underdogs winning with 14 men has romanticised it somewhat
It was a great game but it has been shown often enough and shows lateral thinking by RTE who I feel are doing this for the sake of it .
I think RTE sport has more on less given up the ghost realising their fare is dwindling. Losing the 6N in rugby hit them bad .
Where RTE could win with this is if they showed some of the pre match and half time analysis. They would have the rights for that. The 02 football final when Spillane had a cut at Bellew being a case in point.
I know in the 04 final there was the famous Mullane interview afterwards. I have some recollection of the lads in studio breaking their holes laughing at it when it came back to them.
It’s just pure laziness on their behalf.
Couldn’t be arsed putting a bit of work and thought into it. Just go with the bog standard obvious ones and the masses of the plebs have no choice but to swallow it.
I reckon they’d be happy to show the following on a loop and nothing else.
Tipp v Kilkenny 2009 and 2010.
Any amount of Dublin v Kerry matches.
1995 hurling final.
2004 Munster final.
Ireland v England rugby in Croke Park.
Like, they’ve literally thousands of matches they could show but the appetite isn’t there to show anything other than the ones staring them in the face.
There was a great Leinster championship match in Tullamore a few years back between Galway and Kilkenny - Galway banged in three goals in the last ten minutes with Canning firing over an equaliser from the sideline with the last puck of the game, after Shefflin looked to have won it with a cracker.
Ask anyone in the RTE sports Department and they’d have to Google to see what you’re on about.
Limerick v Waterford 2011. Any of the Dublin - Meath matches from the 4 game saga. Leitrim winning the Connacht title. Antrim v Offaly in ‘89. You’ve an endless amount of matches and stories, but no - stick to the same small circle of matches. Very frustrating.
To be fair a few Sundays they did World Cup goals highlights shows that were great.
A well edited highlights show of the 1991 Dublin v Meath or the 2007 Lk v tipp sagas would be great
The famed Limerick Tipp saga of 2007 must be the most written about saga on tfk.
Think it might be a tad overrated as sagas go.
From what I remember they were all scrappy enough albeit well contested games. Think the second game Tipp threw away a big enough half time lead.
They were up 10 points I think.
Two teams that won fuck all that year.
Tipp were 5-6 points up with 5 minutes to go in the 2nd match IIRC
A nice 3 hour show recapping the 2018 hurling championship would be a nice way to kill an evening. Extended highlights of the 7 or 8 quality/exciting games in it.
2013 had a lot of very good/exciting games as well.
There are loads of cracking games that they never seem to repeat. One that jumps into my head is the Galway v Tipp semi in 87. A belting contest yet it’s hardly seen the light of day since while some games have been on continuous repeat.
An America’s game style recap of a season from the point of view of prominent people involved would be great.
