Any time I watched them playing, they were very average.

Steeped to beat Dublin in Parnell Park

0-1 from play from the starting 6 forwards against Galway in Salthill in 70 minutes before an injury time Walter Walsh goal averted a double digit defeat.

0-1 from play from the starting 6 forwards against Wexford in Nowlan Park.

0-4 from play from the starting 6 forwards against Galway in drawn Leinster Final.

Beaten out the gate in the first half of the replay against Galway in Thurles. Galway fell asleep for a few minutes to let them back into, then woke up again to hammer them a second time.

They did improve a bit against Limerick, but the story of that match was Limerick making far heavy work than they should have had of overcoming psychological baggage and Aaron Gillane making a hero of Eoin Murphy.

The Kilkenny reliance on 3 or 4 top drawer saves from their goalkeeper nearly every day and the complete reliance on a 30 something veteran in their forward line is not reflective of a contending team.

How many minors from 14 were on each panel this year?

There’s a few players coming through for kk but is he slow to play them? In years gone by he was reluctant to play youngers lads until they matured physically due to the attentional nature of their game… Maybe he needed/ needs to adapt to modern approaches? I say that without knowing the full age profile of the squad but they’ve had problems in certain areas all over the field, particularly in defence, and they were plugging round squares with triangles instead of giving youth a season or two to develop.

In saying that, the effort he gets from his team’s is something else. It’s phenomenal really.

To be fair to Cody, he did seem to go for more youth this year than he had previously.

Conor Delaney, Pat Lyng, Billy Ryan and Liam Blanchfield all started Championship this year and were on that minor team in 2014- Alan Murphy & Luke Scanlon were on the panel too.

They also had Richie Leahy & Bill Sheehan from the 2015 minors and John Donnelly & Mossy Keoghan from the 2016 minors.

That’s definitely a lot more than in previous years.
