Judging by results so far youâd have to put Tipp no 1 in Munster, and by some distance really. Cork are at 2 based on beating Limerick. A toss up then between Limerick and Clare for 3rd with Waterford 5th.
Very poor championship so far. Tipp the only team really hurling to the top level. Cork have looked ok but Limerick and Clare are a long way off where they were last year and Waterford are a complete basket case.
Christ, what was going on in Leinster for the bones of 20 years. Whatâs the breakdown between Kilkenny, Wexford, Dublin and Offaly in Leinster championships since 2000
If Clare lose to Limerick, then theyâll need Limerick to beat Tipp in the last game actually. Then theyâd knock out Cork on head to head by beating them. If Limerick lose to Tipp, Limerick, Clare and Cork would all be level on points and as it stands Clare would be in big trouble on scoring difference.
(all the above is assuming that Cork beat Waterford)
What you had in Leinster and the All Ireland Championship as a whole from 2000 onwards was the greatest team of all time in Kilkenny. Outside of Leinster, Kilkenny inflicted the same type of hideous beatings on Munster opposition that they did on Wexford, Offaly and Dublin. Kilkenny beat Tipperary by 12 points in 2003 semi final, by 18 points in 2012 semi final, beat Waterford by 23 points in 2008 All Ireland Final and Cork by 12 points in 2010 semi final.
Wexford regularly turned over Munster opposition during the Cody years of dominance once they were free of the shadow of Kilkenny. Wexford knocked out Limerick in 2001, Waterford in 2003, Tipperary in 2007, Clare and Waterford in 2014 and Cork in 2016.
Killennnyâs great team is gone now and they are pretty much at the same level now as Wexford and Dublin. Wexford beat Kilkenny in Wexford Park in 2017, should have won in Nowlan Park last year, losing by a point in a game they led by 7 maybe 8 early in 2nd half. Dublin lost by 2 to Kilkenny in a match they should have won in Parnell Park last year, close match between Kilkenny and Dublin again this year. Wexford v Dublin a draw this year and a one point match last year. Galway drew with Wexford, drew with Kilkenny in Leinster Final last year and Galway only beat Dublin by 2 in Salthill last year.
Thereâs a long list there of matches in the Leinster Championship that have gone to the wire since 2017. In Munster this year there have been 5 turkey shoots from 6 matches, the smallest losing gap of 7 points. Yet the Munster hurling lobby are on here spinning the line about how seemingly every match in Munster is a classic and disband the Leinster Championship.
