Galway should enter the Munster club championship to make it more competitive. Given that Munster teams have won two AIs in the past 20 years, I doubt many Munster counties would welcome it.

There is nothing more embarrassing for some little village club celebrating winning a junior z county final like it’s the last day on Earth. Athenry and Turlock are well on their way to becoming superclubs, they will ruin club hurling just like your horrible GSW ruined NBA for years

Superclubs aren’t exclusive to Galway mate. Cuala and Ballyhale and too many to mention in football. They are destroying rural Ireland

Ballyhale a superclub? What’s the population of Ballyhale? They are the very definition of a successful rural club. Similar to Portumna and St Thomas’s in Galway in terms of what they have achieved with small playing populations.

Winning the senior intercounty All-Ireland was incredible, the county went mad and it was just such a feel good factor for the place. The only negative - well negative is probably the wrong word - is that when you don’t have a clubman or close friend involved on the panel you’re just a small bit distant as opposed to if there was someone involved.

Been lucky enough to see my club win county junior & intermediate titles and you definitely get more personal satisfaction out of it. Delighted for your neighbours and friends, people you’ve known all your life, drank with, went to school with, even fought with when you were younger!

Being honest I think the GAA is really starting to come under pressure in rural areas. Becoming so hard to field teams, finance - or lack thereof - is a major thorn for everyone. Clubs having to merge with neighbouring - and rival clubs - to field at underage and often 13-a-side at that. The super clubs with club bars and gyms and with 200 u-10’s training on a Saturday morning operate on a different planet to most.

The county scene has all the glitz and glamour. If we won the AI again this year I’d be the happiest man in Ireland once more but I’d honestly prefer to win a club title in the muck and shit next October just to give all within the club a boost and encourage more children and volunteers to get involved. A lot of people now don’t have the time or willingness to get involved. It’s only when you give a hand out yourself you see what a struggle it is to keep the show on the road.

We played two championship matches in April. We were due to have four All County league games since. All four were called off by the opposition for various reasons - bereavement, they had a football match fixed for the same night, lack of numbers. These are senior B/premier intermediate clubs with much bigger numbers than us. Honestly can see clubs folding in the not too distant future if things persist.

The big days in Croke Park with full houses etc don’t really paint an accurate picture of what life is like down at the coal face where just keeping your head above water, paying the bills and not being relegated is the order of the day.

Would you think of going to the All Ireland semi final if your county qualified for it?

The 24 hrs after winning an AI is magical but then it gets watered down as every Tom dick and Harry attached themselves to it, cunts who never hit a ball or couldn’t find two club grounds in the county. It’s hard to have long term emotional attachment to it when you’ve to share it with wankers like that.
Id put winning a county minor title ahead of it.
