I thought Kyle Hayes was the obvious call when I reflected afterwards, he seemed to be everywhere, no other Limerick forward had a great day out though Mulcahys point at the finish was just superb, was it he or Casey that had played the stray pass that led to the Galway point just before?
What a day though, I never felt such relief in Croke Park I think, felt a lump in the throat when they belted out Delores âDreamsâ, the roar that Dowling got when he lifted the cup was beautiful.
I was personally delighted for my old pal Nickie, if there was all Ireland medals for being sound heâd have a hatful.
At the final whistle yesterday I embraced a chap I had never met 90 minutes previously, when I was saying it was over after the third goal he wouldnât hear a bar of it,
What a day
Actually FotF Shane Stapleton makes a good point that Mulcahy would be a deserving HOTY given his clutch and consistent contributions throughout the championship.
My God what a day. Christ we nearly fucked it away. With all the injuries in the second half there was no flow and you knew there was going to be a hape of added time. You knew Canning was going to go for goal towards the end, and was going to get it. But by the same token, I knew his last free was too far out and was surprised he seemed to go for it. Finished the game with Tom Condon and Ohhhh Richard McCarthy on the field of play. Two lads youâd have thought would never win an All Ireland medal. But they have them now, and they can carry them around in their back pocket for ever more, as is right and proper.
Flanagan won a serious amount of ball and did very well overall, but I have a feeling he wasted a decent few balls in the second half. He set up a couple of points through sheer doggedness too, putting a boot in to get a little kick on it away from an approaching defender to a Limerick player in space and so on.
I had a perfect view of an outrageous pass that Flanagan played in the first half which was miscontrolled (Hegarty??) better than his pass for the goal in the semi, he worked like a dog all day,
From 2015 to 2017 we barely won a game of note. Then came out this year and beat Kilkenny, Cork, Tipp, Waterford and the reigning champions.
Most unlike us we consistently held our nerve in tight finishes. 2 points in the quarter final, forcing extra time v Cork and hanging on by a point yesterday. That Graeme Mul point as we were falling apart was sensational.
