In the long term, that Kilkenny defeat might be the best thing that happened to that Limerick team.

Sport is funny all the same. By summer 1998 Clare had become as physically dominant a team as Limerick are now (although Limerick have better forwards). I remember watching them absolutely scourge league champions Cork in Thurles that year and you couldn’t see them been beaten for years. Then they got complacent for half an hour against Waterford in the Munster Final, then turned the dial back the other way too far and were never able to get the balance right again.

I think ye are clearly better than Tipp and the level ye reached against kk was the best half of hurling by any team this year bar Limerick in the final yesterday. Ye can’t afford to be without TDB in fairness, but who can.

I think if you draw a line back through the form, Limerick beat Galway by 3 who beat Tipp by 2.

Tipp should and probably would have beat Galway with 15 men. Match up terribly against Limerick though, though most do tbf

They did. I thought we’d bate them in 99 only for that late Davy equaliser. I wasn’t allowed down to the replay as the Leaving Cert had kicked off

The Clare team had a few lads who seemed like headcases (Davy, Lynch, even Loughnane and Mike Mc). Current Limerick crop don’t seem as bonkers.

Absolutely. You’ll win nothing without strength in depth. Tipp won last year without the Bonner, when it seemed for years that we had to rely on him when things got tight.

PS the two lads Limerick were missing are better stickmen than the Bonner
