All Ireland Hurling Final 2024 - The Tony Kelly Final

Yes

Galway’s famous “third midfielder tactic” Johnny left on his own all day mopping up loose ball

My memory is he played as the loose player in the full back line when Galway pulled out anthony Cunningham to play as a third midfielder. Galway kept lamping ball in on top of crowley and he cleaned up.

Jj Delaney I think.

Who got it in the drawn final in 2013? Did the corner back get it after the equaliser?

It’s a fair point,
My memory is that he almost played as a sweeper, not a traditional corner back anyway.

Remember when they gave it to Cody, that’s when hurling died

I was friends with John’s sun a long time ago. Nice fella. I can’t remember what game it was (I actually initially thought 86 but obviously not) but he told me John had been unreal but, because of a red card John had gotten earlier in the year, he was overlooked and Tony O’Sullivan got it instead.

Anyway, fast forward to John’s retirement and low and behold, who shows up but Tony and presented the award to John.

There will be plenty of direct ball going into that full back line. Hogan will see plenty of ball. A terrific hurler.

Tony Sull was MOTM in the centenary final
I don’t think Johnny Crowley was sent off in that championship, Cork were very lucky to get by Limerick on their first day out, I think Tommy Quaid let on a couple of howlers that day

Conor Ryan was MOTM in the drawn final

Maybe twas an All Star?

Tony O’Sullivan couldn’t have gotten Johnny Crowleys all star

I’d say it was that match alright, Crowley was very good

Yeah true. No I do think it was a MOTM

Did KK Michael Kavanagh go close one year?

2009 - he was excellent, especially as the free man when Dunne was sent off.

Philly Larkin could easily have been MOTM in the 2002 A/I final

Was Philly I was thinking of Dan, and was 02’ few show stealers that day. Had cattle break out that evening and always remember the report in the car about how superior he was that day but there were big stars on show.

You’re correct. He mainly relys on others to pass the ball to him or to get onto the breaks off puckouts.

Was there any restrictions on the quick puckout after a score in the Limerick-Cork game? Johnny Murphy’s umpire gave a lecture to Quilligan in the Wexford game when he tried to do it. Wonder if they’ll apply the same standard the next day given how central it is to Cork’s restarts.
