All-Ireland U-21 2012

Excellent goal from Cooney. Would be a great result for us if Galway stole this.

game on

2 goals from running direct at the kk defence.

Did a young lad just jump out of the stand and Rob a sliothar there?

Just threw a couple of quid on the draw at 7/1 there.

Is the lad playing full back for Galway the same lad who was sent off for their minors last weekend?

I’m guessing that young, over-eager, slipping umpire is the referee’s son. He was legging it to get the green flag for the Kilkenny first half goals too.

Good to see a Kilkenny player with a bit of individuality in the post match interview

It is.

Best fullforward line at this level I’ve seen in a long long time. Joe Cooney should be starting in the senior before his namesake Conor who was totally out of his depth.

Smashing win. Damage done in the first half but a good performance all round.
As said earlier, galway looked flat. Still though, a fair year for a team that not a lot was expected of.
Clares final to lose mind you. Smashing team they have.

A shocking performance overall, lacking hunger and almost waiting for something to happen rather than bringing the game to KK.

Niall Burke, Conor Cooney and James Regan have alot to prove in training next week. Glynn, Joe Cooney and to a lesser extent Glennon are breathing heavily down there necks.

Hopefully Cunningham will have learned a thing or two.

Anyway well done to KK , some serious forwards plying their trade there today. KK and Clare has the makings of a great final.

WHy do you say not a lot was expected of Galway? They won the minor 3 years ago and last year?

think he is on about Kilkenny 21s

KP, for me this looked pretty ominous, its pretty clear to me that Cunningham thought that as long as Galway physically competed, they would win. I thought the skills levels and use of the ball was very average, if Galway think fronting up in the senior final will be enough they are in for an awful rude awakening. I also thought some of the a Galway defenders looked way over bulked, if not overweight? Almost Dublin like…
It may well be that KK blow Clare away physically in the final, but i dont think CLare will attempt to play the game on those terms

The KK minor manager of 2 years ago told us this was the best KK minor side ever, so either he was a flute or there should have been some expectations in KK

Kilkenny are the bookies favourites for the final. 8/11 shots

they should be…we’ve never won a minot AI…makes sense

There’s more to it than that Kid. There was very little intensity to Galways play. Physicality is one thing but you need to back it up with intensity. Also Glennon is not Damien Hayes.

The worrying thing for me is that Regan, Cooney and Niall Burke will have to offer alot more than they have been showing in the past 3 games I have seen them. Burke has a bit of Farragher about him, not overly interested in the heavy stuff which begs the question about bringing Glynn in who seems to revel in the rough and tumble.

So, whats was Cunninghams game plan? It was all very crash, bang hit looking to me. GLynn looks promising but he spent most on the game out beyond the 45. THere was plenty of intensity on Galway for the first 15 (led 5-2) and the last 15

“not overly interested in the heavy stuff which begs the question about bringing Glynn in who seems to revel in the rough and tumble.”

I fear you are getting sucked in yourself

Same game plan as the senior one it seemed to me. Except they found themselves in new territory. Didnt take their early chances, found themselves a few soft goals down and didnt really know what to do and started pumping aimless enough ball into the forwards.

Galway management might actually learn something from this defeat.

I think its niave to think that Cunningham would think that roughing it up with Kilkenny will suffice? Is that what you implying Kid Chocolate?

I have no doubt that Galway got lucky against KK in the Leinster final and 3/1 odds is about right going into the final. However I dont think it will be the mauling that some people predict and if Galway manage to keep the wides tally low Kilkenny will find it difficult enough to shake them off.
