And now we’re level. Two lovely points from Kilkenny and Kelly.
Awful miss from Dawson with loads of lads inside for a simple score.
Good save from the Roscommon keeper there but Dawson might have been better tapping that over for a simple point. Dublin dominating this since I switched on.
Wow terrific point.
Three points up now. Kilkenny with another nicely taken point.
Goal!! Delighted for the handicap backers.
Champions again, as I predicted from a long, long way out. All five subs made a massive impact and completely swung the game. Paul Hudson Man of the Match. Emmett O’Conghaile gave an exhibition of catching at midfield. This is an absolutely superb crop of young Dublin footballers and a three in a row is a distinct possibility.
Cork v Tipp will be broadcast live on TG4 this Wednesday evening
When are we out chewy
End of July in a semi final v Waterford in Ennis
Cork missing a load of starters for this - Sweetnam, Hartnett, Walsh, Wall, Deasy and Sugrue all out, Haughney and Daniel O’Mahony are doubtful. Good few panellists out as well. I’ve seen the team we are supposed to be putting out, looks a bit dodgy midfield up.
What is Harnett’s story, is he still sitting out the 96 weeks to get his transfer to Middleton
Yeah, I think he is still a few months off being available. With him and Wall out we are well short inside, those two along with Coughlan would (or at least should have been) be our starting full-forward line.
saw your prediction for the defence turenne. are you sure rodgers wont be full back with cahalane corner?
tipp wouldnt want to be pucking much fifty fifty ball up the field in this one. strong lads in corks defence but they might struggle with closing down movement
Don’t remember saying Rodgers would be full with Cahalane in the corner, if I did then I don’t know why as Cahalane won’t be in the corner (although he plays there for the Barrs). Personally I’d have Cahalane at 6 flanked by O’Mahony and Joyce with Rodgers at full and O’Brien and Spillane in the corners. Won’t be like that though, it’ll almost certainly be Cahalane at 3 and Joyce at 6.
Yeah Spillane and Patrick O’Mahony are the only ones you could categorise as quick. The rest wouldn’t be sluggish but natural pace would trouble them. Still they won’t let anyway past them without laying a finger or two on them.
Laois hurling in for another hockey Wednesday night unfortunately. A bad crop this group of U21’s through no fault of their own, more an organisational failing They were poor at minor level and Dublin will ate them without salt which will bring on all the “whats to be done with Laois hurling” while ignoring the good work going on already, time will tell whether it will be enough to make a dent at senior level in a few years time.
For fear of slipping into the questionable form of some other forum poster here, but the recent results at U14 & U15 level have been encouraging, combined with the minors performances against Westmeath, Kilkenny & Offaly. A win against Wexford in 3 weeks time would be an unbelievable boost but the loss of one or two players through injury could prove fatal as Laois quite weak once we move outside the first 17 of that panel.

If Tipp are any use they’ll win this considering the talent of players we are missing. Our backs are fine, but the midfield is only passable - Drake is a lovely hurler but Kelly alongside him is fairly limited, albeit hard working. Both are fairly small. Forwards are nowhere near as good as they should be - obviously Lehane and Coughlan are class, but Cronin and Brosnan are being played out of position, I can’t say I rate O’Sullivan highly and I have no idea how much hurling Sugrue has been doing. Brosnan and Kelly aren’t in good form. Sugrue and Lehane the only ball-winners, heavily reliant on Drake/Cronin/Kelly winning breaking ball. Sugrue and Brosnan are wild cards tbf, will be interesting to see how they go.
Bench is very worrying - at a push, Wallis is the fourth best goalie in this grade in the county, Finbarr O’Mahony lacks speed both in the legs and in his hurling. Kavanagh is just out of Minors - tbf I haven’t seen much of him to judge him - likewise Barry and Cormac Murphy are just out of Minor and neither distinguished themselves last year, although both are physically strong. Sean O’Mahony is an above average club player. Only two forwards there - Haughney and Murray, the former is talented but small and very inconsistent, the latter has been in decent form lately but he isn’t particularly fast or strong. Neither will offer much impact imo, and neither can win puck-outs. The balance of the bench - four defenders, two midfielders and two forwards - is wrong, particularly when the two forwards are fairly similar.
The team itself is decent but that bench is worryingly poor. The amount of players we are missing due to injuries, the leaving, and other circumstances is considerable - Daire Lordan, Wall, Walsh, Sweetnam, Buckley, Stokes, Deasy, Hartnett plus other lads like Finn, Ian Lordan, Duggan, Burke etc that are not selected for whatever reason. At least four starters, plus a whole load of lads superior to some of the lads selected on Wednesday. Shame really.
