All-Ireland U-21 2013

Boring cunts.

Kevin Kelly is quite the orator.

Was at this. Kilkenny looked like a team that thought they would walk it. They had to be shocked into action. Moving Kennedy on to Quirke at half time was the key move. He is a fabulous player. Like Kelly, I would fear that he could be a bit small for modern day senior hurling. Harney and Buckley were very impressive too.
Ger Aylward looked like a guy trying to impress Brian Cody and it backfired badly. I’m not sure I’ve ever seen a greedier performance in my life. He also seemed to have to slow up to take a shot and was repeatedly blocked and hooked. He’s very young though and will have many better days.
Offaly were good for ages but fell away badly in the end. They didn’t look as unfit as their senior counterparts. Looked like more of a lack of belief when they fell behind. Like the senior team they gave away a lot of unnecessary fouls. I put this down more to a lack of coaching at underage than anything. Goalie, fullback, centre back (Camon) and Stephen Quirke excellent. Both teams fielding was very impressive.

I thought Offaly looked very unfit and had plenty of “burly” lads all over the pitch. I wasn’t in the least surprised that they fell away in the finish.

Kilkenny also repeated a habit of the senior team of ballooning ball into the forwards. When they started hitting in decent ball in the second half they started making hay. Hopefully this will be repeated on Saturday night

I was at this too, did you not think the Offaly goalie, full back and corner back were HUGE? I thought their blocking in the first half anyway was very good, they did fall away in second half especially after penalty save. I thought nothing went right for Ger Aylward tonight at all but they did keep sending ball into him.

Cahalane played for the county senior hurlers last year, but while he had opted to only play senior football this year, he had indicated a desire to play U21 hurling if possible. While his availability for Ger Fitzgerald’s side was in question due to the footballers’ involvement in the All-Ireland qualifiers fourth round the weekend after next, he is named at left half-back. In the previous two years, the St Finbarr’s man had filled the full-back spot.

Two of the Cork side who began last Sunday’s Munster SHC final defeat to Limerick are included. Christopher Joyce is named at centre-back, while Conor Lehane is at left half-forward. Four subs from Sunday, Colm Spillane, Patrick O’Mahony, Robert O’Shea and Jamie Coughlan, are named at corner-back, full-back, midfield and right half-forward respectively.

  • The Electric Ireland Munster MHC final replay between Limerick and Waterford takes place at Semple Stadium next Tuesday, July 23, at 7:30pm. Extra-time if necessary.

CORK (U21H v Tipperary): P Collins (Ballinhassig); C Spillane (Castlelyons), P O’Mahony (Midleton), D Lester (Bishopstown); D O’Mahony (Carrigtwohill), C Joyce (Na Piarsaigh), D Cahalane (St Finbarr’s); B Murray (Bishopstown), R O’Shea (Carrigaline); J Coughlan (Newtownshandrum), D Lordan (Courcey Rovers), C Lehane (Midleton); A Cadogan (Douglas), J Wall (Kilbrittain), B Hartnett (Midleton).

Subs: T Wallace (Midleton), S Murphy (Blackrock), C Barry (Castlelyons), K Kavanagh (Carrigaline), N Kelly (Mayfield), M Sugrue (Bandon), K Hallissey (Éire Óg), B Lawton (Castlemartyr), C Buckley (Na Piarsaigh).

Average enough team with not much coming off the bench. You’d never know at this grade though.

Is Cahalane the footballer?

It is a bit strange that they started Dan McCormack the last day when they must have know he was going to America.

Yeah.

Yeah.

Sean og will be pleased with that team. Players are all from clubs he will have heard of.

is that the Ray Barry that that got a load of scores for the seniors v Kilkenny last Saturday? He was in the forwards last Saturday. Wing back for the 21s?!

Yes that’s the same Ray Barry. He played wing back for the seniors v Westmeath. Odd that Austin Gleeson is not getting a start.

WTF is Calahane playing tonight for? there is no way he should be allowed to play after siding with Footballers. should not be allow to pick and choose. Strong enough team though, should be able for a poor tipp team.
