It is DK. He is doing a great job considering his young age. But, he would want to be doing as well as he is considering the talent available at the moment. Tipperary Football is going great guns right now but its whether we will be competitive @ Senior level in 5 years time is the key.
What kind of a team have Clare?
Sad to be proven so right on this last night. My first time seeing that Kildare side this year, but they have the talent and have it in spades. The sheer physicality of them is fearsome as well, but in Flynn, Cribbin, Kelly, Hurley, Conway, Dowling etc, they have some outfit. No idea what Longford are like, some of the Wexicans may be able to shed some light on them, but unless they have serious physicality to go with their talent, they wont live with this shower over 60 minutes. A dreadful end to a year that was showing some positives for Laois U21 football.

Not special. Good forwards - very good if they want to be - shit midfield and mediocre backs. Hurley, O’Rourke and Cahalane are senior inter-county standard players, while Brian O’Driscoll is class but not a corner-back. Clancy is good as well and on the senior squad but he is a half-back, not a midfielder and was shocking there against Kerry.
Against Kerry we played largely with McEoin/Hurley inside, Connolly drifting between the full-forward line and half-forward line and Cadogan/O’Rourke playing very deep hoovering up breaking ball from kick-outs.
If ye have a strong midfield and a top class man marker for Hurley you would have a chance.
To give the more balanced view. Cork have a couple of excellent backs, midfield is indeed weak fir this level and a serious forward line.
They were immense at Minor, coming back from the dead a few times and being involved in extremely high standard games. However I believe Brian Cutbert had alot to do with this and they played for their coach alot I believe. Not sure if they can replicate that kind of passion.
Not a vintage team like the Goulding team, but still potentially more Senior players than most years. Cahalane, Wall, Cronin & Clancy are all potential defenders.
Any if the forwards bar Cadogan could make it with O’Rourke already there and the whole full forward line on training panel. I liked Surue too when I saw him last, big rangy, reasonably athletic, good passer and gets the odd goal.
‘Gives a more balanced view’ by just repeating what I said. Good job Kev.
Wall stands out a lot less now due to the style they play, he worked better under Cuthbert’s laissez faire approach. He isn’t as impressive when he is asked to just defend for 70 minutes.
He only became ine as a Minor. You could well be right thought about his style. Sad to see this team restricted by coaching.
I do have a different view. The glass is half full.
Cork a goal up at half time, apparently Limerick are on top but after hitting a load of wides.
Cork pulling away now big time. Any Limerick lads at it?
Finished 2-14 to 11 to Cork.
Cork and Tipperary will meet in Munster U21 Final in Thurles on April 10th.
Tipperary 1-12 Clare 0-07 FT
Home advantage could prove crucial here but with respect to Wd & Clare, Cork is a major step up in opposition. Hopefully a half decent crowd will show up for the final as it should be a entertaining game.
Tipp seem more cohesive in the past couple if years Minor. Cork have bags of talent, but often don’t produce enough consistency and the coaching may have gone a bit stale
All that is correct Kev, but my major worry is the age profiles of both teams. Tipp are very young and could find it difficult in the physical side of the battle. Cork hammered Clare in a recent challenge, while Tipp stuttered past them the other night.
Time will tell. A win for us would hopefully raise the profile of Football another notch facing into the Summer which would be great.
