Donegal 4-09 Monaghan 1-05 FT
Tyrone 2-10 Armagh 1-07 50m
Tyrone 2-12 Armagh 2-08 FT
Impressive win for Donegal, they’ll go in as favourites for the final.
Tyrone were more comfortable winners than the scoreline suggests, Armagh with a consolation goal right at the death. Final is next Wednesday, Mark Bradley didn’t play for Tyrone tonight so hopefully they’ll have him back next week.
kinda agree and disagree. there is plenty of money being pumped in on top of the €5m that was pumped in for hurling. Yes it is lazy to just attribute the success solely down to numbers or money, but at the same time, once those numbers and money was being utilised properly it has undoubtedly made a massive difference. Put it this way, I dont think Dublin would be where they are without either, but they needed to make the most of it, and that they certainly have through good coaching and games development plans.
In terms of the ‘numbers game’ quip though, its pretty fair to say Dublin are one of few, if the only, team who play a 20 man tactical game, in so much as they have players on the bench who come on as part of actual tactics, and not to just to replace a like for like sub. This is evident in some of the subs they have and how they use them. Its a great advantage to have a panel with so much depth in it, but again, it will only work if it is used properly, and Dublin do use it properly.
Anyone can implement a 20 man game, disagree with that.
However the money matters. I’m with a team that paid UCC for sport science program where players lives are monitored and fatigue monitored etc. it cost 4k but it’s help to coaching and reducing injuries etc is massive.
Multiply that up to Dublins resources and it is an advantage.
I interacted with Dublin GAA recently at a lower level and they have everything covered. Sometimes that can lead to passing the buck, but with someone like Gavin you’d imagine it’s well utilized.
Cork have the resources to match them as money can only buy so much, however the decision makers still want to make all the decisions and there is a distinct lack of trust of many strands of the GAA. Highlighted by recent football appointments that have wrestled back control from people who were making great progress. Corks football set up has been dismantled in 2 years to a deplorable level.
Was there another floodlight failure in Ulster again tonight? Jokeshop
No.
Oh dear

Donegal’s goalscoring power saw them prove too strong tonight for Monaghan in a game that was initially delayed due to floodlight failure at Healy Park in Omagh.
In difficult conditions for football, Donegal got the job done in a comfortable fashion compared to the last-gasp goal they needed from Ryan McHugh to beat Cavan at the quarter-final stage.
Jack O’Brien and Lorcan Connor bagged Donegal’s first-half goals as they went in front by 2-5 to 0-2 at the break. It was a handsome lead considering they were in front narrowly by 0-2 to 0-1 with six minutes left in the opening half.
Monaghan fired home an early second-half goal from Kevin Loughran to give themselves some hope and they cut the gap to 2-6 to 1-3 by the 42nd minute when DCU Sigerson Cup winner Dessie Ward pointed.
But in the final quarter Donegal took over again with Ciaran Thompson notching their third goal. Lorcan Connor hit his second goal and Donegal’s fourth of the night and that sealed a resounding 13-point success.

Rossies play Donegal or Tyrone in AI semi final
When do the semi-finals take place?
2 weeks time.
Surprised to see Tyrone are favourites for the Ulster u21 final tonight.
Donegal have been runners-up in Ulster in the last two campaigns and were All Ireland minor runners-up last year. They have the likes of McHugh, McFadden and O’Connor who all look like they will be starters or at least pushing for a place this year, McHugh and O’Connor also started last year’s All Ireland final. Donegal have also come through the tougher side of the draw and dumped out Cavan and Monaghan.
Tyrone would only really have McShane who is likely to be pushing for a starting spot in the senior team, they have also struggled at this level the past couple of years and although they reached the minor final in 2013 they lost their star man in that team to the AFL. Hope Tyrone win but I am very surprised to see them start as favourites when most of the signs would point to Donegal.
What a week it was for Kildare
Tyrone 1-06 Donegal 0-06 HT
Ryan McHugh seems to be coming in for some rough treatment.
Lee Brennan having a stormer for Tyrone.
