donegal’s system is based on discipline and workrate…think that will suffer a bit from them winning AI last year…hunger has to be gone to some extent…whatever about goalscoring forwrads they spend too much of the game far away from the goals…there’s times when macfadden is only donegal player in opposing half… think if Mayo had taken the time to match up their defenders with particular donegal forwrads they would have avoided conceding both goals in AI final…
Agree Dublin miss Alan Brogan massively…think Kilkenny will need to step up a bit in his absence…if anything Kilkenny holds up the ball too much at times…On sunday Dublin were missing their most consistent player for last 3 years -Paul Flynn…
think you’re wrong about Dublin midfield…think they could mix it with anyone
interesting article on Gavin in Sunday’s Times…seems to be hellbent on playing football ‘the right way’ which is basically having a really open game with everyone going man to man…wouldn’t fancy that with dubs defence…
Totally agree in Flynn, arguably the most consistent footballer in Ireland when you think about it over 3 years. Quite a few have played brilliant games but he has nearly always been good to very good. He would be a huge loss were he missing, a massive connection between backs and forwards and adds size to the attack.
Dub’s midfield is ok Scum, MDM’S is a hero in fairness, but any combination I have seen last few years have been terrible in the turn and very vulnerable (everyone is really, but these are worse IMO) on the counter attack. One if these days also some ref is going to start pulling MDM on steps, he takes alot.
The Dublin team and management were all sipping ale in Fagans after hammering Tyrone in the championship 2 years ago.
I was in there with a few Dublin mates. None of us knew Cluxton personally but one of us had a bit of an accidental collision with him bringing refreshments from the bar.
We chatted to him for ages. Have to say he was sound and chatty. We even had a chat about the time he laid out Jason McAteer with a haymaker. Okay he wont win an award for speech making and mad all Ireland winning celebrations but he is a super player and the one time I met him I have to say he came across as an alrite sort
It wasn’t meant to be cool. There are plenty that poke fun at Cluxton because he is a bit different and serious the way he goes about his football. There has been a few negative comments about him as a result. I thought it fair to put across the version of the man I met and demonstrate that he was an alright sort in our company. Very friendly in company of people he never before met.

Was Harry Potter there?
Harry Potter is a fictional character, he could not have been there.
You may be getting confused by the fact that Daniel Rathcliffe, the actor who played Harry Potter, once went drinking with a Dublin underage football team.

I’m not sure what you’re getting at there.
He could well be, he sent me a PM yesterday saying that he was backing up TAN in the cop on thread to antagonise the rest of the forum and was trying to persuade me to do the same. he also said that gola was in on it too
Chewy tried to coerce me into admitting such a thing yesterday via PM but I gave him short shrift.
I have no problem posting the PM exchange.
