I can understand your viewpoint, but sticking the league final in Croke Park every year in front of less than 20,000 isn’t a great look for the competition or the sponsors. The standard of the competition every year certainly deserves a big Croke Park day out but it wouldn’t be long until people are whingeing about having to go to Dublin for ‘an oul league final’. Not a runner.
Gotta hand it to Allianz, they’ve been backing this thing for a good long while now and I’d reckon they’d rather the final be played in front of a big crowd in a small ground than a very small crowd in a very big ground.

It seems strange to play D3 and 4 football final in front of an empty stadium but it’s not ok to do so with the second biggest Hurling game of the GAA year. Playing it in front of a half full gaelic grounds with those poor bastards on the far side getting pissed down upon isn’t exactly a ringing endorsement either.
I hear what you’re saying about 20k in Croke Park but this year it seems particularly weird.

I’ve no idea what the craic is with the football or why they do that but Limerick is the best option for both teams today anyway. Where else has 2 covered stands bar Thurles.
