Allianz Hurling League 2017 - Round of 4

Did we have a pitch invasion today? I left before the end.

No, there was plenty of room for the warm down this week.

That was a fairly harmless foul. Disappointed that Shaun missed the pick up initially and that we lost the ball.

Didnā€™t realise Reck was so young. Looks a good prospect

Davy is total box office

Having a look at the League Sunday tonight and Shane Dowling looks like a chap who is still wintering

You reckon it was just him?

In particular. Heā€™d the biggest arse of a sportsperson on telly since I saw Charlie Adam waddle on for Stoke when I wasnā€™t watching the Liverpool game last week. Iā€™m sure Richie Mc was carrying a wide load also but he didnā€™t appear to feature prominently in the highlights

Ah itā€™s all part of the big plan chief. We didnā€™t want to win today. Didnā€™t want to embarrass Tipp in a league final. Said weā€™d leave it until September. Just watch. Weā€™ll do the same against Clare and then bate all round us in the qualifiers.

I fully expect Limerick to beat those banjo playing Clare rednecks

There is some timing on that first photo. I canā€™t see at all when there is contact with Davyā€™s hand and the face guard.

Lads going mental over the picture and how it looks. Video of it seems so much different.

As an aside, love his enthusiasm, but you canā€™t just run onto the pitch and roar at the ref. He should get a sideline ban, but wonā€™t. He should pay the inevitable fine out of expenses too.

I think that last photo was a buff special too. Looked like him impressing the young wexford supporters.

His team needed a jolt after conceding two sloppy goals and Davy duly obliged ā€¦ a fine display from when he entered the pitch until Haltime youā€™d have to say

Well itā€™s all him in the papers this evening. Not the hammering.

Yeah he said as much. Regardless, I donā€™t think it should be done like that. It was calculated enough, but donā€™t agree with how he did it.

I havenā€™t heard from the great manā€¦ but youā€™re right - It has no place in any sport. He is box office all the same

Yea, I saw that photo at half time and it looked very bad, but in the context of the video, its not as bad from Davys side. Sure, he shouldnā€™t have been on the field, but thats for the ref to sort out, not O Meara or Forde. I think heā€™ll get a ban this time btw. But it was a masterstroke at the time.

Whatever about standard of hurler, pick, recent success and all the other things Tipp would hav over Wexford, Tipp are well coached and Wexford will be well drilled. Under Davy, and there are not too many signs he has changed, Wexford will learn how to play one or two or maybe 3 ways. But they will not be coached to figure things out for themselves.
This drill v. CLA type of coaching (or drill sergeant depending on your use of words) actually becomes very apparent when players play so little games these days.

The last real successful drill based winners were Cork 04/05. While they were dri driven, that team played a shit load of hurling. Cork played challenge games alot and players played with their clubs the majority of the time.
Quite a few IC players these days will be lucky to reach 12/13 games. Most will not play more than 18/19 unless the club happens to be particularly successful.
They lose the game know how.

So throw anything unusual at Wexford or dilute any of their tactics and they are fucked.

I really enjoyed the Wexford game today for 65 odd mins. Maybe not the best standard of hurling but decent fare for April in front of a crowd who were clearly enjoying it. Think some of the Wexford lads are being a bit harsh on their own. Well beat for a finish but this is a very good tipp side. Iā€™d love to see the same level of improvement in cork that you have had over last few months.

Bit of luck you could win a Leinster title

I like them and they have a game side with a couple of excellent players, but they will do well not to be hammered by KK. They will probably set up not to be, but they talk about Kerry taking a stick to a hive, Wexford will have poked a very big bear.

KK not what they were for sure, but jesus they still have 4 or 5 forwards who on a day when primed could absolutely destroy you. They only have to worry about 1-2 wexford forwards so KKā€™s present weaknesses may not be as exposed against Wexford.

Game to look forward to though.
