It’s a bit of both. Offaly seem to be a very inexperienced side. Fit but extremely light and were shrugged aside in any physical exchange. I was told that 5 of their starters came from intermediate sides? They had to bring their keeper up to take frees from about the 65. They missed a few frees from straight in front of the goal which were in and around the 45. That’s junior level.
Waterford are hard to judge on today. Played well and did all you could expect of them against such opposition. Moved tha ball well and looked to work chances and there was no hit and hope stuff. Then again they were under no reall pressure at any stage. A few players look to be in great form after overcoming injuries the last couple of years. Plenty to bring back in to strengthen the team too. We can surely only be better than last years debacle.
Offaly over achieved for decades with the pick they have. They are now underachieving. The county board is broke and are all ould gombeen types who clubs send in as delegates. Coaching in schools is almost non existent. They only have about 6 decent clubs and most of those are doing really badly underage… Some cunt from Camross took over one up and coming club, Shinrone, and nobody from there made themselves available for selection. They’ll struggle badly in the league but will be competitive by Joe McDonagh time.
