Allianz National Football League 2024

Jaysus, did Kildare really lose to Corkā€¦.

Cahill killed it back in 15. The seeds sown then are now flowering

Iā€™d forgotten that Tipp reached a minor football final that year too as well as the U21 final. Not as strong a crop as 2011 but they were glorious times for Tipp football all the same. Conor Sweeney and Michael Quinlivan absence are factors presently but both are north of 30 at this stage.

I remember there being a huge crowd at a Tipp v Kerry Munster Championship match in Semple Stadium one balmy Sunday that May. Football was getting great traction at the time.

The locals smelt a scalp of the All Ireland Champions but Cooper, Star, etc werenā€™t long putting us back in our box.

Following Tipperary football was good craic though from 2009-2020. Should have taken a few more scalps like Cork 2014 & 2017 and Armagh 2017. Mayo were there for the taking too in 2016.

Big John Evans got the ball rolling with back to back promotions around 2009 iirc. Tipp travelled up to Kingspan Breffni Park with a shot at promotion to Div 1 under Liam Kearns back around 2018. A great period. 2 All-Ireland semi-final appearances and a Munster title is a good innings. Who knows what might have been if Colin Oā€™ Riordan hadnā€™t been poached by AFL.

Going down to Austin Stack Park and walking all over a star studded Kerry U21 team in 2010 was great fun too.

The win over Derry in 2016 often gets forgotten because the Galway game got all the recognition.

I remember in Phil Ryans Hogan Stand pub before the Mayo game that year, Michael Murphy was in there drinking. Donegal were knocked out by then and Tipp were still standing. It was a real, ā€œweā€™re in the big timeā€ now moment.

Sadly you knew Tipp football was in trouble when they let them throne fuckers sledge them off the field in that U20 All Ireland Final

It was still U21 at that stage and a far better competition for it. 2017 was the final U21 championship. Galway usurped strong favourites Kerry in one semi-final, while Brian Howard and Con took care of a hyped Donegal team in the other. Dublin won the final too.

Louth are purring :flushed:

The Wee Countyā€™s turn towards God in first appointing Mickey Harte and then Ger Brennan is working.

The Fermanagh goalkeeper did a few disappearing acts worthy of a man walking on a Nazarean road

Fuck sake

This amused me.

Thurles isnā€™t in great condition apparently so Tipp-Wexford was fixed for Templetuohy (spelling?). It became clear late in the week that this pitch wasnā€™t playable and there was talk the fixture would be moved to an astro pitch somewhere in Tipp. However, neither side particularly wanted to play on that surface & there wasnā€™t really any viable alternative in the county so Tipp agreed to travel to Wexford. As Wexford were at home to Cork in the hurling league this afternoon in Wexford Park, the game was fixed for St Patrickā€™s Park in Enniscorthy this evening as it was deemed the Wexford Park surface couldnā€™t take two matches. St Patrickā€™s Park became unplayable as the rain today worsened so the fixture was put back from 6pm to 6.45pm & moved to the Centre of Excellence out in Ferns. But now the match has been called off as the pitch in Ferns was also deemed unplayable when everyone arrived there.

Monaghan on the precipice of their 89 year spell in Division 1 coming to an end.

They must beat Tyrone in Omagh. They are 0-2 to 0-0 down after 02:45.

GOAL for Monaghan. Jack McCarron finishes to a vacated net from six yards.

CuuuuuuuuĆŗl Monaghan

Thereā€™s an incredible bang of dankness off night league games at Healy Park. The dim floodlights, the bare, boggy, peaty soil, like mountain squelch, the sheen of the wet concrete of the empty terrace on the birdā€™s eye shot.
