Allianz National Hurling League 2024

Whose fault is it mate that Tipp are where they are? Limerick for changing the game? The fellas who made ye kick football for a few years? The split season? Development squads? We’d all be fascinated to hear.

Is Cahill likely to be under a bit of pressure if they fail to get out of Munster? There is a rebuild coming but on the face of it I think Clare, Limerick and Cork seem to have a better group of talent from 18 to 24 currently but who knows.

I don’t think so. The players aren’t there. There’s an appreciation of that within the county

Where did it all go wrong for hurling in Tipperary ?

Madness bringing him back on, to the point of negligence. Didn’t learn anything from the Waterford game last year. Id say Cahill is as stubborn/thick as they come

The game has changed now to this hybrid Rugby League/Hurling version and its alien to us.

We are trying to play some kind of mish mash bastardised game and havent a clue how to do it.

Tipp schools have won the last two Harty Cups and a Minor All Ireland in 2022 yet there is a general feeling that none of these lads are up to much.

Unless he loses the dressing room, he’ll get a third year.

Sheedy and O’Shea will be back after that to ensure we win one before the end of the decade.

Small historically B grade schools winning harty tells you all you need to know. I’d say aside from Adam Hogan who is already a fine I/C defender not one other Tulla player from their winning team will get close to playing senior I/C.

Maybe the floor is being lifted and the amount of solid hurlers is far higher than 20 years ago meaning numbers no longer dictate at schools level

Thought it absolutely stupid myself alright.

Nor do Lads travel miles to go to the famed hurling nurseries in the numbers they once did . It’s levelled the playing field a bit

There was a bit of excitement in Tipp last year when two schools made the Harty Final but that optimism soon vanished when people actually saw the match.

On last night, i couldnt make head nor tail of what the tactics were. Conceding puckouts and letting Limerick waltz out like Waterford and Galway last year. And the Tipp puckout collapsed then. You’d like to think Cahill was playing 4D chess but i dont think he was.

I got the feeling while watching the match last night that Tipperary weren’t at the level they were last year in the league. I’d attribute this to Cahill finally learning his lesson on when a team should peak. The match last night will have no relevance come championship, where we will see a different Tipperary.

Spot on.

I don’t think Cahill has the hurlers to play the style he is insistent on playing.

Tipp panel are honest but that game plan will never suit the John McGrath, Jason Forde & Alan Tynan type lads as meaningful forwards.

It’s actually alarming how much Tynan has dropped off the pace of play since the Cork game last season.

Morris is effective but needs workers around him with pace & movement.

Cahill probably needed an EOS type figure in there to coach movement to trouble LK.

If Limerick play 7/8 in the back line you need an H/B line who can score consistently from distance to draw them out of that comfort spot.

Not too many teams have a scoring trio like Hayes - Hannon - Byrnes. They are really key

How far away is championship?

The ‘smaller schools’ have an advantage in that they are not populated by huge number of intercounty lads (i know this sounds odd, but anecdotically Im told this is the case), who get pulled left right and centre. It’s easier to get bodies at training, which obviously helps with cohesiveness. The ‘bigger schools’ often end up trying to get the best 15 hurlers in the starting 15 rather than just pick the players who suit the position best.

Lads on intercounty squads are not as committed to schools as they once were. The harty used to be a trail for intercounty, but lads have already made it.

Brian McGrath was obviously poor and replaced but O’Mara didn’t improve the situation at all.

The much-maligned Robert Byrnes stock probably rose last night.

I’d have Robert Byrne in the half back line before I’d have Brian McGrath there. Byrne might make a push for a starting spot with Kennedy out.

He was.

Connolly wasn’t much better in MF.

Take O’Connor out of HF line and you’ve no option to puck it out long at all unless you start Bonnar which isn’t ideal.

Dan, Noel, Tynan just don’t have the pace.

We’re honest and can hurl a storm in fits & starts but there isn’t a 70min performance of note to be seen in a good while.

We’re in a league semi final. He’d want to have some idea of a championship team by then. And decide on a fucking goalkeeper and stick with him.

Ye need to forget about Hartys lads
