His dad was a sub on the 96 all ireland team so I’d probably start there with pedigree talk!
Hes a good lad in fairness to him. There was a good crop of chaps around his age and his younger brother has heaps of potential too.
He was top scorer from play on that minor team despite being a sub in all but one game. It was a joke that he wasnt played to be honest and some of the things said to him at the time by the manager completely out of order.
He can get frustrated easily enough tho too and can get carded quick enough, so as long as he uses controlled aggression rather than silly fouling, he’ll be fine. Great to see him get motm today too. He’ll be close to making this team, he is a good finisher and if he keeps going like this I’d say he’ll end up being a long term free taker too.
Jim captained UCD to win the Fitzgibbon Cup in 1993. I was involved at the start of the season but picked up a knee injury which finished me off for the year. Johnny Pilkington and Eamonn Scallan were on that team too. I ran into Scallan recently. Hadn’t seen him in a few years. He’s a big unit now.
Hopefully not it’s a false dawn but it looks like Wexford may compete in Leinster. Rossiter has them playing some good stuff with players like Kevin Foley and Mark Fanning returning to form a help. Young Cian Byrne is a lovely player, surprised he’s not on the frees as I still wouldn’t trust Casey who himself is playing well.
Waterfords tactics keep look more and more deplorable with each loss. They win the shot count on most occasions but most of these shots are low or medium percentage shots.
Their goal threat is non existent bar an odd defensive error like Fitzgeralds goal.
When you see Paddy Leavy hitting long range frees you know there’s something seriously wrong.
That’s a ahocker from Waterford. At home in a game they’d have targeted with a lot of big names on the pitch and Wexford down Lee Chin.
No excuses. Outscored 1-07 to a point in a ten minute spell in the second half. You have to limit the damage when teams get a run on you but they hadn’t a clue.
Their only saving grace is they’ve two home games to start in Munster nicely spaced out and they should win one of them. If they dont though, then they’ll ship some hidings in their away games.
De Burca did his achilles? Hardly near a comeback is he? Waterford were poor today. Hard to see them raise a gallop in munster. Davy has a lot of work to do to erase the emotional turmoil caused by Liam Cahill so he does.
They weren’t at all septic most years between 1998 and 2021. I’d say the semi-final defeat to Limerick in 07’ and a tame enough defeat to Clare in Munster in 08’ finished Justin.
