You have some hope of stopping mass killings by either reducing the level of mental illness in the population or at least controlling the source of the mental illness. Radical Islam is a source of mental illness, and should be banned. Unless of course you believe flying planes into buildings or driving trucks into crowds of people is rational behavior.
It is absolutely worthwhile trying to stop mass shootings. The way to stop it is to understand what is causing the mental illness associated with these events, and until such time as the mental illness can be successfully treated, do everything possible to ensure these individuals are closely monitored and donāt have access to any weapons.
Hoping to stop it by banning guns is pie in the sky stuff.

Iāve previously stated that I support the banning of semi-automatic weapons like the AR-15, as they serve no useful purpose for civilian use than other less lethal firearms. Thatās not the point I am arguing though, which of course as always flies over the heads of the usual suspects. The individuals who carry out these mass killings are (as Steve Kerr rightly pointed out) lunatics who suffer from mental illness. Banning a specific weapon or weapons is not going to stop them, it might make their task more difficult, but the evidence of several decades of these events is that they will find a way to carry out their carnage.

Funny, you omit to mention Coach Kerr singles out the NRA and their strangehold on US Govt, in fact thats the main point he is making, the maniacs only comes in at the end and are again tied into his questions about automatic weapons.
Automatic weapons are already illegal in the US, how many times does this point have to be repeated?.
I agree the NRA has too much influence, and should drop their support for semi-automatic weapons like the AR-15. The single most effective measure imo is to enact legislation making it illegal for anyone diagnosed with mental illness to purchase a firearm of any sort. Stopping lunatics getting their hands on any weapons should be the primary focus.

As a comparative. I donāt think weāve ever had a mass school killing here. Weāve had a total ban on firearms for decades. I expect we have the same level of mental illness as the USA and the same poor approach to treating it.
