Squad named this morning. Kevin Kilbane is a major doubt with a back injury I believe

Trap thumbs up to pay cut

Ireland coach Giovanni Trapattoni is reportedly set to begin talks with the FAI over a new two-year contract today.
Trapattoni is thought to be ready to accept a 50pc salary cut from his purported €1.8m deal to see the Irish through the qualifying stages of the 2014 World Cup.
The FAI are putting the new contract on the table even though Ireland’s Euro 2012 qualification fate is still undecided.
However, an FAI spokesman last night said that “we never comment on speculation” when asked about the story published on the ‘Ria Novosti’ Russian news website.
FAI chief executive John Delaney had intimated that he would await the outcome of next month’s Euro 2012 qualifiers against Andorra and Armenia before addressing the issue.
“It’s up to the association to make a decision about whether we keep him,” said Delaney earlier this month. "If we think otherwise, there’ll be a parting of ways. That’s a decision that hasn’t been made at board level yet.
“I’m more interested in the Andorra and Armenia games and seeing if we can make the play-offs or win the group.”
Trapattoni again intimated after the 0-0 draw in Moscow this month that he had been approached by other unnamed national associations, but he has also previously expressed his desire to help Ireland qualify for the 2014 World Cup in Brazil.
“I think we deserve the opportunity to stay in charge,” he said on his last appearance in Dublin. "We are steadily growing and improving.
“If the FAI need to speak now, we can discuss it. But, in this moment, my attention is only for Armenia and Andorra.”
Ireland are currently second in Euro 2012 qualifying Group B on 15 points, two behind leaders Russia and just one point ahead of Armenia and Slovakia in joint third.
Ireland’s final games are in Andorra on October 7 and at home to Armenia four days later. Russia travel to Slovakia and then host Andorra.
Trapattoni announces his squad this morning, with James McCarthy slated to return officially to the senior ranks, while Leon Best and Jonathan Walters will remain hopeful that good Premier League form may earn them inclusion in an extended group.

No Andy Reid? For fuck sake.

I think Leon Best is possibly the only notable exclusion. That’s a 27-man squad so I guess it’ll be trimmed down either by forced withdrawals or by the manager himself closer to the time.

Actually scrub that comment on no notable absentees. He’s left out loads - the likes of McShane, Gibson, Marc Wilson, Treacy and Ciaran Clark too. Sorry everyone.

I find it hilarious that Andy Keogh gets selected nearly all the time.

Time for Hoolohan to replace Keogh in the squad.

What’s the story with Gibson’s injury?

No real surprised in the inclusions but a few of the absentees are surprising enough. Treacy seemed to be someone Trap had taken a shine too. I think injuries will probably get the squad down to 22.

Darren O’Dea live on SS1 now for anyone interested.

And Andy Keogh as well.

What the absolute cunt is this about???! I’d not like to be playing Andorra without our record goalscorer.
Madness.

Does seem too tight to be playing game so close to Andorra game. At least the game is on the east coast so travel will be somewhat reduced.

ROBBIE Keane will join the Republic of Ireland squad for first day of training ahead of the vital Euro 2012 qualifiers with Andorra and Armenia next month.
Keane has a club game with LA Galaxy on 4 October, three days before Ireland face Andorra.

But he has been given permission to skip the game, which is close to a non-event for Galaxy, other than being a clash between two leading MSL teams.

By skipping the game, captain can now join the first day of training with Giovanni Trapattoni’s squad on 3 October.

Ireland then face Armenia on October 11.

A win from both matches will secure at least a play-off for qualification to next year’s tournament.

Lovely news. Panic over.

Wonder show of compassion by the Club. Alright sorts The Galaxy.

Kevin Foley looks to be out of the squad for next week’s matches with an ankle injury.

The Andorra game is down for an 8.30 pm kick off as welll I see.

Just taking a moment to congratulate Aiden McGeady on becoming a father for the first time. I hope he’s fully tuned in for the upcoming double header though - Clare can manage the new arrival herself, I’m sure.

Judging his last 2 performances for Ireland, Robbie should stay in LA, Long and Walters much better options, i have been hugely impressed with Walters this season.

Kilbane out.

We could really do with Macedonia getting a point in Yeravan Friday night.

What would people see the ideal result in the Slovakia Russia match being from our point of view?

Slovakia win. May as well go for broke.
