Iron Maiden - Fear of the Dark
For fans of prog, Opeth, etc…
Caligula’s Horse. I’ve had this album on repeat for a few days now.
Continuing the prog metal vein…
Riverside - Anno Domini High Definition
@Fagan_ODowd - one of the better gigs I’ve been to in the past 10 years was Porcupine Tree at tripod back in 2010. I brought a friend from Iran that had never heard them before, let alone seen them before. He was hooked almost immediately.
@farmerinthecity @Fagan_ODowd @glasagusban
Two very awesome and very different metal bands (both tracks take about 1:30 to warm up)
Progressive Metal band, Tool…

Industrial Metal band, Ministry…

Actually, going to tag @anon7035031 on this too - his young lad may not have heard of Ministry, but I know Labane Sr. will enjoy the fan-made video above. It’s a fucking belter!!

These buckos play a gig in Dublin every other year, think they’re due to come again sometime in 2016…Packed smaller venues, hair, sweat, dodgy pints and women with bits of metal hanging out of their faces. Mighty tack.
Good hardy stuff there @PhattPike. It has that Candlemass doom sound, but the Maiden gallop is fucking epic! Cheers pal. Will check them out.
Does that album cover say “Boldly Stride the Doomed”?!
Boldly Stride the Doomed is indeed the album name, a smashing mix: half doom, half heavy-metal, all brillunt!
What does the board think of Sunn O))))
I’ve given them a crack over time, and there is no doubt they are blazing a trail. Not sure of anyone else coming up with their brand of metal…if that’s not pigeon-holing them too much. I’ve seen them labelled as “avant-garde” before, and I think that’s very fair. While they are not my cup of tea (I prefer the edginess of, say, The Dillinger Escape Plan), I would have them one hundred times ahead of a lot of the shit that gets trotted out as metal - at least they “play from their fucking hearts”. Plus, any time I’ve seen Stephen O’Malley interviewed he came across as an alright sort.
Unless there’s some bit of rhythm in it, I find it hard to listen to music tbh, even the early Earth stuff had a bit of a beat going on, or there’d be other ambient/drone bands like Megaton Leviathan with a drum machine hammering away in the background.
I’d say watching Sunn O))) would be a different kettle of mackeral altogether though.
@glasagusban - if you’re hanging tough waiting for a new Tool album, worth giving these guys a shot. This track picks up at the end, but that melodic little riff throughout is perfection.
I’ve been meaning to listen to some of the stuff on this thread, but I’ve grown out of most metal to be honest and never had a taste for the speed or death varieties. Give me hip hop any day, or some jazz or electronica. That said, if these guys are comparable with Tool I’ll have a listen.
Good man! Caligula’s Horse and Arcane have the same vocalist - Jim Grey. Both worth checking out. Not mad heavy at all. Not hip-hop either though.
Reign of Fury - Harbinger of Decay
A nice throwback to the Bay Area thrash of the mid- to late-eighties. Some fairly saucy guitar work on show too.
Lemmy died last night. For a very long time he was my favourite rocker. Motörhead from 1976 to 1982 when Eddy Clarke was on guitar were outstanding.
