Another one of those fucking Ulster football threads - don't let the first post fool you

Who is the best team in the country?

I think you’ll find that is an incorrect statement.

Only two Munster sides have won All Irelands in the past 24 years.

Only three have contested semi-finals.

Only four have contested quarter finals, all ratios that are below Ulster.

Right now, it’s Dublin. But this debate isn’t circulating around individual teams.

Donegal reigning Ulster Champions and AI Runners Up were made play in a preliminary round in Ulster. The Ulster Council failed them in this regard, they would have been better off with Tyrone’s easy run to the QFs

How did they fail them?

Ulster is a competitve province so we don’t make allowances to anyone, we treat each county the same as the other.

Unlike the actions of the Leinster and Munster councils who treat certain counties like the golden child.

Kerry with 37 AI Football Titles (over twice the total of the combined 9 counties of Ulster) and Dublin with 25 titles probably deserve to be treated like a golden child, or maybe they should be penalised for being successful?

How are Donegal being penalised when they are being treated the same as any other county in Ulster. We don’t believe in favouritism in Ulster, we feel it would devalue our Championship.

Can we not discuss the merits of the proposed changes?

Or my macro plan or alternatives.

I think its beyond doubt now that
• bomber thinks ulster teams(and people i daresay) have a tougher life than everyone else. Fair enough. I see the view, but as a coach and player i don’t agree. A few do, many other don’t.
• the championship is flawed, in many ways and change is needed
• the vast majority of people want a 2 tier championship
• almost everyone wants a better deal for clubs
• players want to play in Croke park, especially on big days
• most people want the league and provi cials to have some form of reward
• the rules of tye game are flawed and referees are u der the cosh and need help

And even when we get to the bottom of this, i daresay, we will still end up in august with Kerry, Dublin, Mayo and one of Cork, Galway, Tyrone, Donegal, Kildare, Rosscommon or Monaghan in the semi finals.

What there is, is tier 1 (Kerry, Dublin, Mayo)
Tier 2 (Cork, Galway, Tyrone, Donegal, Kildare, Rosscommon or Monaghan) and tier 3 ( a few teams trying to reach tier 2 like Tipp, Armagh, Derry and a few more.

Everyone else are also rans in a big big way. They are nowhere and won’t be for a while. The bottom 2-3 places of Sam McGuire in a split championship will be fodder and may be better off in the lower championship. It happens alot in gaa actually where you get a few teams say playing senior but in fact they’d never win the intermediate were they in it.that kinda has to be rectified. Weather by finances and support or what i’m not sure. But something needs to be done. A bit of money to pay a few analysts and specialist coaches is an absolutely massive advantage that the big counties have. Except Cork who have decided its all rubbish.

Discuss the future. Not the past. Ipinions are formed and we are all cranky heading to middle age stubborn men. So lets look forward.

But you want favouritism in the qualifiers by keeping teams apart?

How is it favouritism?

This has been pointed out multiple times.

You don’t want to devalue the Ulster Championship but want the All Ireland Championship to be devalued by not treating all teams equally.

Because the Ulster Championship works and the narrative is that it’s the only functioning Championship, what does not work is the other provincial championships where teams win matches willy nilly by 20+ points. The qualifiers should aim to redress the balance the likes of Dublin, Mayo and Kerry have by playing in very poor provinces.

Why do you resist such movements?

Because you only seek them to get a leg up for Ulster Counties.
If you are not good enough to win your province then you shouldn’t be afforded the luxury of avoiding other losers in the qualifiers.

Yeah but Dublin, Kerry and Mayo regularly beat the best Ulster have to offer. Maybe Ulster teams need to look at themselves to see what they need to change to beat the best in other provinces.

kerry get a bye into the semi final mate

Where they beat the best of what Ulster has to offer.

because injuries, fatigue and suspensions come into play
