Maradona of Asia’ Ali Karimi sacked for not fasting

Popular Iranian footballer Ali Karimi, sometimes described as “the Maradona of Asia”, has been fired by his club for not fasting during the Muslim holy month of Ramadan, the club said on Sunday.
Steel Azin FC said on its website www.steelazin.com that it was “forced to sack one of its players, Ali Karimi, for being disobedient and not fasting during Ramadan”, when devout Muslims fast from dawn until dusk.
Karimi, who was the Asian Player of 2004, had even “insulted officials of the (Iranian) football federation and the Tehran team’s supervisor who confronted him on the issue”, Steel Azin said.
His sacking comes after he criticised the management style of the club’s managing director and former official of Iran’s Revolutionary Guards, Mostafa Ajorlou.
The state news agency IRNA, meanwhile, reported that club chairman Hossein Hedayati was unaware of the decision and was against Karimi’s sacking.
Karimi, 31, is the second most capped player and the third highest scorer for the Iranian national team.
He also had a two-year stint in the Bundesliga, scoring four goals in 50 appearances for Bayern Munich.
I worked with a lad who was observing this. the smell off his breath was fuckin horrible for the month. whether that had anything to do with ramadan i dont know.

mate of mine is a muslim (ergo I’m not a racist). poor fucker lost a rake of weight last year. he took off work for it, think depending on the cult they contribute to they take it more seriously. Apparently Muslim women are great at blowies. Just thought I’d throw that out there.

Got an email about it giving guidelines how to deal with it. None of the staff are muslim though.

the lad sitting beside me at work is observing this- fair whack to him he has great dedication although he said he said its a lot tougher doing ramadan in Ireland than in other countries due to the long days

Actually I was going to put this is in the strange work phenomon thread the other week but i forgot. I work in the same office as a lad of Indian or pakistany descent, he has a beard the length of his fist so I presume he is islamic anyway, but everytime he goes to the toilet he brings a plastic cup of water with him from the water cooler, is this a religious thing or is he an oddball
Just speculating, he could be bringing it to wash his ass after he shits. It’d be cultural more than religious as far as I know. That’s the way it’s done in North Africa and I think also the middle east so could easily be done in India or Pakistan.
