Apt quote from limerick hurling manager

interview on Off the Ball last week with the ex manager who managed Limerick hurlers in their last All Ireland final. He said hurling was in the doldrums in Limerick not because of Munster rugby’s success but because the Limerick hurlers were rubbish.

His exact(ish) quote was “It’s baloney that Limerick people are sports mad, they only follow successful teams, that’s all there is to it and that applies to all Irish people” Spot on for a GAA man.

I agree with him too.

It’s an Irish thing. There’s rafts of people in this country who are event junkies and they’ll do anything in their power to get tickets for the most fashionable / media driven event at any given time.

A few years ago it was U2’s run of concerts in Croke Park. Then we had Munster getting to the Heineken Cup Final. Ireland-England in Croke Park was another one, the Ryder Cup also and so on.

It amuses me greatly.

was at the game yesterday- the limerick following was huge & very impressive- musthave been 4-1 limerick fans compared to kilkenny
