Archos Multimedia Players
Quick question that I imagine Rock will have the answer to.

I was recording something the other night but when I check the recording 3 hours later I found that it had quit after approx 2 hours. Do you know what the deal is with setting it to record for longer?
Ah never mind. I found it.

How’d this work out for you Flano? Bit tempted to get a new player when I finally get a job.

New Archos Internet Tablet 5 looks pure class. Might get one for myself when you get a job.

The Archos has worked out fantastic for me. After using one of these an iPod seems like a toy compared to it.

The docking station is the business. Only another 100 odd vhs videos to convert now :pint:

Flano

How big are these things?
Do they play DivX, avi etc?
How long does the battery last? Would it last as long as a flight to Idlewild airport?
Can I download Mad Men to this thing and watch it on my tv?

I’ve been thinking of getting a hard drive/media player type thing, would this suit me better?

All the best

They’re probably about 6.5’x 3’ approx

Yep.

6-7 hours. So you’d be OK, just about anyway.

Yes. With the docking station. Crucial.

Just to add to Flano’s responses I guess it really depends on what you want from your hard drive media player.

The Archos isn’t going to have unlimited capacity (but plenty for a few films and a few series of shows) so you aren’t going to use it to store a catalogue of films and tv shows.

But, it plays fine through the tv and its portability is excellent for flights, train journeys etc. I brought mine to Central America last year and watched films on the tv in hotels and had wireless internet the whole time. Excellent device if that’s what you’re looking for.

Only qualm I have with Archos is that they discontinue support for old versions once they release new ones. I have my 605 wifi for about nearly 2 years but there’s no more firmware releases and the flash version on the web browser is starting to get incompatible with some websites. But I don’t think that’s particularly crucial anyway.

Oh and for my player you can get a battery extender to double the battery time - presume they have something similar for most of their devices. You just clip on an external battery. Handy for long flights etc.

There’s a 500GB version of that tablet though. Pretty sweet.

Bought me the Archos 5 Internet Tablet and it got delivered yesterday. 300 europeans. Got the 32GB flash version because portability was more important to me than capacity. It’s slightly longer than my old Archos 605Wifi but it’s a fair bit slimmer and lighter.

It’s excellent on first impressions, video quality is superb and internet browsing is very good.

Any links so I can see a picture of one of these things? I will then decide if I want one or not. I lost my most recent iPod fighting outside coppers
