It’s standard practise in the hotel world, although the lists wouldn’t tend to be as comprehensive as this

I’d imagine they are phonetic versions of other names, or perhaps the people making the booking would know lists like these exist and try to circumvent it with an incorrect spelling of their own name.
They may as well say no Irish

Damned if they do, damned if they don’t. You’d feel sorry for staff having to deal with that.
Having said that, we were on a weekend break a couple of years ago and on the Saturday I saw the wedding convoy pulling in to the hotel. We were on the ground floor and there was an exit from our room to the outside, same next door where some of the wedding guests were staying. They immediately plonked themselves outside our door and were smoking and drinking. The 3 of us headed out that door so they knew we were there, hoping against hope that they might tone it down when they realised it wasn’t just wedding party around there. I had visions of pending anarchy all through the night but in fairness there was no trouble at all. In fact it was one of the quieter weddings we’ve encountered on weeekend breaks. It was some hotel outside Kinsale.
What about dogs and blacks?
