ah right, won’t be getting vista yet, XP still does the job
To be honest i wouldn’t really play games. I used to play Civilisation i think it was called when i was younger and thought it was deadly. Something like that. But mainly for interweb purposes so i can continue my role as part of TFK’s admin team.
So i’m looking for RAM? And lots of it? Specifically how much? A couple of feet?
[quote=“artfoley”]got my pc off these lads over a year ago, cost 450 incl delivery

I’m not going to fall for that one either art.
my bad, but then again his computer might just need a bit of ram rather than splashing out on a new PC ?
True enough alright. I’d be wanting a change after 4.5 years myself though.
how about this for dunph if he’s looking for a PC ? only 425

RAM is dirt cheap nowadays so you may as well get as much as you can. Often it’s a lot cheaper though if you buy just the bare minimum RAM from the laptop supplier and buy the extra yourself from the net. It’s very easy to install it afterwards.
Don’t get anything less than a Core Duo Intel processor either, and look for something aroung 2.2GHz or more depending on price. I wouldn’t drop below 2GHz.
No my current one is knackered, i definitely need a new one. Is there anything to be said for walking in off the street to PC World and asking for help? Or will they hustle me and con me into buying extra things i don’t need? This is what i’m most concerned about.

In English please, i don’t speak IT nerd.
They will try to hustle you and the after sales service will be non-existant.
grand so, I wouldn’t go for pc world myself, they generally sell at 15-20% margin compared to other online sellers
what exactly are you looking for in a laptop or a PC ?
Are you going for a laptop or a desktop?
fairly decent spec PC, with a good dose of RAM, expandable, and should do you for most things for 3-4 years (no monitor though)
Laptop. I suppose Dell is the way to go? They’ll surely be doing a few good deals, with the way thins are.
how much do you want to spend and what are you going to use it for ?
You seem to know what your talking about i’ll ask for something with loads of RAM and expansion.
Interweb exploration mainly. South of a grand preferably. I presume laptops are getting cheaper. My current one was bought 3 years ago for about 1200 in total with all the extra bits.
