AS Roma 2011/12

I’ve just about recovered from this season’s disappointment and my focus is now on next season. But first there’s a very important calciomercato to come.

Of course, our budget will be much better than in previous years post change in ownership but we still need to spend wisely.

We’re a squad seriously in need of an overhaul and the rumour mill has already gone into overdrive, which comes as no surprise.

We also need to sort out the managerial situation sharpish.

Please put all views, speculation, confirmed new signings, contract renewals/extensions, sales/releases in this thread.

I’ll start:

  • Luis Enrique and Didier Deschamps appear to be the front runners for the manager position.
  • Philippe Mexes has signed for Milan on a Bosman free transfer.
  • Daniele De Rossi has publicly reaffirmed his commitment to Roma. As discussed with Totti and TASE on last season’s thread, I feel a parting of the ways might be best for both parties.
  • We’re making moves to sign River Plate starlet Erik Lamela.

All in all, we’ll win the league if we can keep The Prince of Rome fit.

FORZA ROMA!

Will we be in the Europa league next year Bandage??? I wasn’t too sure on the final standings with regard European placings…

De Rossi linked with arsenal today while denilson and clichy rumoured to be heading in other direction. Always liked De Rossi, be interesting to see how he’d fare in premiership.

Any chance they’d make a move for Matri to play up front? Was very impressed with him in a couple of games and if they could get in ahead of Juve there they’d have a young improvement over Boriello.

Don’t think Matri would be suitable to our style of play, Rocko. I’d also be very surprised if Juve pass up on the option to make his move permanent given how well he has settled there.

Francesco will be the focal point of attack and we need some mobile and versatile attackers in and around him.

The manager situation is an interesting one. Deschamps is a good coach - but a very functional one - which I don’t think is suited to the typical Roma style of play. I’d love to see Bielsa or Ancelotti get the gig. Not too enamoured with the Luis Enrique link either. We’ve also be linked the Chievo coach, or should I say ex-Chievo coach, which doesn’t really fill me with much confidence either.

We need major reinforcements at the back and in attack. Midfield also needs some freshening up.

A big summer is sure to be in store and I hope we sort out the manager situation in the near future.

Have Juve an option on him? Maybe not ideally situated to the current squad but with Toni, Boriello and others in recent years I think Roma have been striving to find a focal point for their attack.

What’s the story with Luis Enrique? Any particular reason he’s linked so much - other than the Guardiola formula? Bielsa would be ideal alright you’d think.

Luis Enrique today resigned his position as Barcelona B team coach. He’s being linked to Roma even more heavily now.

Did he not announce his departure months ago?

Luis Enrique is set to be announced as Roma coach soon, according to my sources.

im hearing this too

could be a great move- he could bring the good stuff from barca- leave all the bad stuff back in barca- we would be the perfect football team

whats our budget for next season/?

Not sure mate, the media are speculating it to be in and around €40m net spend.

A complete lack of action so far in the transfer market, which is only natural given we are managerless at the present time. I hope Enrique is planning on giving this old squad an overhaul and bringing in some fresh, young & talented players. I aslo hope he gives some of the youth players a chance. It will be interesting - I would had rather a proven manager - but the fact Enrique is coming from the best youth system in the world might mean he could reshape the Roma academy and youth structure and have us producing world class players again!

Luis Enrique has announced that he only has ‘a few details left to complete the deal’ to take over as Roma manager. Ivan De La Pena is expected to be his assistant.

Not too happy about having an ex-Eagle on our touchline.

Yes, I’m sickened about it. I would consider vetoing Enrique from bringing him in.

Luis Enrique revealed he has agreed to coach Roma, and only a forthcoming signature is needed to finalise the move.

The 41-year-old Spanish tactician, who will arrive following a stint with Barcelona B, is ready to embrace the Serie A challenge and bring some Camp Nou knowledge with him.

Despite a link with Atletico Madrid, Enrique admits he will coach Roma - just hours after club director Walter Sabatini said they were waiting for his signature.

“There is a total agreement with the Giallorossi. All that is missing is my signature. In the next few days I will be in Rome,” he told Sky Sport Italia.

“I am happy with the choice and enthusiastic about taking on the Roma project. It’s a winning project and I am an ambitious coach.”

And Roma can expect some Barcelona-style football at the Stadio Olimpico.

“I will play offensive football so many people can come to the stadium to watch it,” he added.

“I want to play with the best players that I will find at Roma and some I will try to bring from Barcelona.”

Details of the contract agreed have not been disclosed, but previous reports from both Italy and Spain spoke of a two-year deal with the option for a third term.

He is reportedly set to make €1.6 million per annum, but this has not been confirmed.

Enrique will replace Vincenzo Montella, who stepped up from the youth team when Claudio Ranieri left the club last season.

It will be very interesting to see how this pans out, one thing is for sure Enrique should be very greatful to fall into such a high profile job with such little experience.

Vincenzo Montella has been appointed as the head coach of Catania. Good luck to The Little Aeroplane. He might be back at Roma as our manager some day.

We’ve had a €10m bid rejected for Gaston Ramirez according to his agent.

We’ve also being linked to Bojan.

Both would be good signings, IMO.

hopefully the little aeroplane will do well at calcio catania.

good to see we are trying to spend money & looking for value too

i fuckin love AS Roma
