ENGLISH IS THROUGH!
Athletics was definitely a lot bigger when we were kids in the late 80s early 90s. Sidney etc will no doubt recall great nights as the likes of Marcus O Sullivan, Frank O’Mara and Paul Donovan won medals at world indoors. Apart from the Irish though I have memories of the world championships being massive tv highlights of the summers. The likes of mike Powell breaking beamons long jump record.
Think it was eamon Sweeney in the sindo had an article a while back about how the Irish sports fans and as a result kids had a much broader sporting taste back then and how soccer rugby and GAA dominate all today.
English didn’t look good there, let’s hope he can up it for the final.
Brits winning too many medals

Yeah, I remember cycling was big then too, and snooker.
Jerry kiernan sticking knife in. Compared to other minority sports pundits who celebrate anything kiernan is a breath of fresh air
I’ll tell you why athletics doesn’t appeal to many viewers - you’ve a fella whose served 2 doping bans taking place in the 100m final tonight. It has no credibility at all. That Pavey thing from last night was ridiculous. It makes cycling look clean which is a shame.
Also, the craic of the Africans who can change their country to run for the likes of Qatar or some other rich oil nation. Or the 3 Ghana lads about to run in the European 100m final
Whats going on here? False start is supposed to be a DQ
It is as clean as any other sport. Cleaner than sports that are bigger. The difference is athletics publicise the results unlike say rugby.
Pavey time wasn’t that fast. She had a kid last year so highly unlikely to be doping.
Nobody under 10s for 100m. Victory for drugs testing in athletics.

Its not the time, its the way she kept accelerating away after 10k from a girl 16 odd years younger than her. Its ridiculous. It may be clean on paper but what kind of stuff can be used that’s not detectable?
Some athletes have a kick. Off a slow time it is not that remarkable.
Question marks over Farah though because of his coach but even legal stuff they do is nuts. Underwater tread mills and sealed houses with lower oxygen levels.
Is golf clean?
Doping while pregnant and breast feeding? I very much doubt it. Apparently she was by far the best athlete in the field according to Sonia.

I heard that too that it’s mostly the money the Nike sponsored athletes have for stuff like this that gives them an unfair advantage rather than out and out illegal PEDs.

Was she wearing no pants?

There is an “altitude” house in UL.

Golf isn’t a sport so doesn’t matter if they dope or not. The Farah stuff is mental alright. Am I imagining things or did David Gillick or some other Irish athlete recently speaking about the doping culture in athletics in the US or in one of these ‘training centre’ somewhere in the US. Not Villanova but somewhere like it. Or was he sharing a room with a doper or something?
Oh well that settles that then.
Athletes on asthma drugs and thyroid drugs (farah reported to be). All on right side of legal but what is or isn’t doping is blurry at times.
The walking is on now on rte2. Rob the racist in 4th so far. One of the russians ahead seems to be almost jogghing. I’m predicting he gets a card soon.
Just through 12 k of 50.
Rob is in third and 26 seconds behind the lead pair after 20km. The commentator seems to be happy with his game plan and progress, looks a cert for a medal.
What an absolutely absurd sport this is though
