Barr has had some run. Hard to believe he’s still only 29.
WLR also. He worked for INN that supplied news to all the regional radio stations I think.
He’s always performed to his potential in major championships. It’s all you can ask for really and not something many athletes manage to do.
He’s in probably the most competitive event at the moment too

Sophie Becker 5th. Tough to run from lane 8. Went out fast and reeled in on the bend around 250m as stagger unwound.
Young from Jamaica who is 21 and big things expected didn’t run well and was 4th.
Sophie won’t be qualifying anyway. Hopefully Rhasidat runs to her potential
It’s live on BBC3 by the way
Rhasidat second and qualifies for semi final.
Ran a great race - out controlled and looked off pace but came through off 150m and held on.
Becker in 6th fastest loser spot with 2 heats left
Still there with 1 heat to go!
Misses out by 2 places / 0.6 of a second
No joy for Barr. Fifth in semi final.
This must be one of the most underwhelming World Championships from a viewership point of view. Everything geared towards US audience. Beginning to see why a good chunk held back for Euros
Athletics failure to properly market itself is a source of constant frustration.
There was a segment on BBC2 earlier on Linford Christie. His drama in Seoul. Medals in Barcelona and Stuttgart. And the conspiracy against him in Atlanta. I remember that stuff as a child and it was generally front page news.
The 100m final the other night glazed by me as if it was a boring Tour De France stage. It mad how such a good product is show so little interest
15k capacity venue and wasn’t even full for the men’s 100m final. You’d barely know it was on.
I thought I read the capacity had been increased to 26k for the World’s. Even still, it’s tiny. Great track for athletes but awful viewing
