Athletics Thread
yeah that was it - Sky didn’t pick it up. ITV used to show all the Grand Prix races but even then it wasn’t getting the ratings I think. It also was traditionally not very popular in the USA so perhaps money was not there for endorsements. The NFL lads will argue that the real athletic stars go to NFL and not track and field

I thought after London Olympics it might take off but it hasn’t.

No reason the Grand Prix races should not be on every Friday for the entire summer - doesn’t clash with TV schedules of other sports either

Anyway English will hopefully medal and maybe with a bit of luck get a gold
Grand Prix meets are all shown on BBC 3…

Adrian O Dwyer, I think he’s a fitness instructor now. Still pierced
Some athletes have a kick. Off a slow time it is not that remarkable.

Question marks over Farah though because of his coach but even legal stuff they do is nuts. Underwater tread mills and sealed houses with lower oxygen levels.

Is golf clean?
UL has one of them oxygen houses athletes attending there often stay in it.

He was part of Tyson Gaye’s training group when Gaye tested positive.

Mark English 800m final is at 6.55 this evening

Hope he puts in a performance and gets a medal.

His best time this season is the fourth fastest of the starters

Bosse from France will start as favourite

to tie it back to GAA matters - 800m Irish record is held by Cork hurlers’ trainer - set about 20 years ago

English is tipped to beat that

Was it Ruby Walsh?

Wasn’t there a high jumper from Limerick a few years back as well - Antoine Burke?

This is a sport thread. Kindly cease from referring to a member of a speculative business investment industry.
Golf isn’t a sport so doesn’t matter if they dope or not. The Farah stuff is mental alright. Am I imagining things or did David Gillick or some other Irish athlete recently speaking about the doping culture in athletics in the US or in one of these ‘training centre’ somewhere in the US. Not Villanova but somewhere like it. Or was he sharing a room with a doper or something?

Oh well that settles that then.
There was good looking one in the high jump as well. Or maybe the pole vault.

English takes bronze:clap:

Mark English

I want those two Polish drug tested

great stuff from mark english there to get 3rd behind a Polish 1-2
that was some race, the French fella Bosse went off like a train but as the lads in eurposport said was he ran like a pacemaker for 700m and emptied.
Tim Hutchings here on Eurosport is a fanatastic commentator, he is calling races here perfectly and his knowledge is phenomenal

Eurosport’s coverage is simply superb. Great stuff from English. Delighted for him. 1,500m will probably ultimately turn out to be his preference but this is a great start to his career.

that’s a question for the IAAF

every french middle distance runner is Moroccan, that fella who was disqualified from the 3k steeplchase for taking off his shirt has the same surname as my wife… there was a fucking Iranian fella running for team GB the other night in the 200m…

this high jump final could be epic lads…
