Why is O’Lionaird such a golden boy?
The news was all about O’Lionard falling and only mentioned as a by the way that Paul Robinson got 4th.
Golden boy? In what way?

O’Lionaird was regarded as most likely to succeed - bronze indoor medal at Europeans, 4th fastest Irish 1500m time. Was unlucky with injuries and seemed a bit fragile emotionally but bounced back

Financially these lads are living on fumes too so it’s hard to keep at it - lot of respect for the ones who do stick at for as long as they do - hours on your own busting a gut. Participation levels in athletics fall off a cliff from about 16 years old because it is such commitment and no team around you to support either

Every news report I saw relating to the event featured O’Lionard way more prominently than the other lad.
They had a big deal about him scrapping through qualification, while at the end mentioning that Paul Robinson had also qualified. Also similar reporting of the final.
Everything focused towards O’Lionard and only bare mentions of Robinson. It was just an observation, which Tabby also noticed.

Fair play to Robinson but he made the most of a field which had lost 5 competitors. Its been covered here since but O Lionaird has been the one to watch for some time and has the pedigree not to mention the comeback story to boot so there was always going to be that element to it.

I know quite little of Robinson I must admit and didn’t see these reports as I’d watched the race but I was curious why you’d see O Lionaird as a golden boy is all.

Well it looks like he’s going to be another one of these great up and coming Irish athletes that doesn’t amount to much.
I found the reporting of it very disrespectful to Robinson, and your comment alluding that he only got 4th because of the fallers in the field is also a bit odd. You seem to have a bit of agenda.

None whatsoever, and I find it bizarre you’re writing O Lionaird off as someone who won’t amount to much on the basis of an RTE news report which he had nothing to do with I would imagine. My comments about the fallers is true, the race was carnage because of them and Robinson took his chance to make a creditable 4th place.

Robinson qualified for the final direct. O lionaird got in as a fastest loser. O Lionaird did beat Robinson in national championships. 3rd guy, Travers, I think was tailed off in a slow enough heat. Fourth guy who did qualifying time but was left at home must have been sick watching it

Are you really a chocolate mousse?

reminded of this earlier

komen setting 3000m world record - 7.20.67 - commentators including steve cram laughing at how fast his splits are - call the pace suicidal

he is only man to run 2 sub 4 minute miles back to back - ran two miles in 7.58.61

Diamond league in Brussels tonight - Gatlin ran a 9.77 100m. Same as he ran 8 years ago when he was doping and banned for four years  Also won 200m in 19.71 an hour later

Paul Robinson failed in 1000m national record attempt in Brussels.

Mark English is running to break 800m national record in Rieti on Sunday.

Fucking Gatlin. Was that the first or second time he was banned? Ridiculous that he’s still competing

Banned once I think - 2006 to 2010. Not sure if he failed two tests though.

He is 8 years older and running better than he was when doping. Blatant.

Athletics has big issues. They are using argon and xenon gases now. Similar effects to blood doping

Basically chemists steps ahead of drugs authority.

First sub 2.03 marathon in Berlin today. Dennis Kimetto knocked 26 second off the world record going around in 2.02.57.

Fenners will break the two hour mark in Dublin

Mark English up soon in the first round of the 800m European Indoors

great chance of a medal - bit of luck he might grab a gold

Dara Kervick won his 400M heat at his ease.

have we any decent looking young ones competing lads?
