God be with the days when RTE would send Jimmy Magee to Zurich every August.

Liz is a great lady for keeping us all up to speed on who is running where. This spreadsheet is well worn at this stage. Of course she’s a Wexford woman

Looking at it on rerun now. Looks like the men’s 10000m was basically a Kenyan Olympic trial

Josh Kerr just broke Steve Crams mile record with Steve Cram on commentary. He spanked Ingebrigtsen taking it up with 600m left. Ben Wightman run off his feet in 4th.

Kerr and Wightman from the same club in Scotland. I’d say they’re drugged to the fucking eyeballs

Choose to be the best middle distance runner in the world

Agreed. Nice to see Ingebritzen beaten all the same. Ballsy from Kerr to beat him at his own game. When it comes down to it, I think I’d like to see Ingebritzen win in Paris.

It’s nice to see he’s beatable and I think I agree I’d like to see him coming out on top. They’ll have a nice bit of shadow boxing in Rome for the Europeans before the big dance in Paris.

Rome is gonna be fascinating with plenty targeting it knowing they haven’t a chance in Paris and potentially causing big upsets cos they’re running against people who are 2 months out from their peak. I’d say it’s a right headfuck for the likes of Ciara Mageean who knows she’ll win a Euro medal but she wants the Olympic one.

When is Rome

June 7th - 12th

Yeah. If she really targeted Rome, she could get gold. If she goes well, I can’t help feeling around 4th is her limit in Paris

It’s her last chance at an Olympic medal so I’m assuming that’s her aim. The Euro medal is between herself and Muir I’d assume and both likely wouldn’t be fully wound up for it. I assume she’ll go there expecting a medal but it’s a step to Paris rather than the season goal.

Yet for the likes of Sarah Lavin, Mark English etc its their primary medal focus for the season

When in Rome is the phrase

At the risk of incurring the wrath of @TreatyStones the below is the strongest squad I ever remember us bringing to any major championships.

Rhasidat, Mageean, Lavin and English all have realistic medal prospects. Tom Barr seems to be running the mixed relay which is a big boost and he should be making the 400mH final. If Rhasidat runs in the relay it then they should be challenging for a medal too. I think it’s a straight final so there might be some chance she runs.

Sarah Healy should be making the 1500m final. Andrew Coscoran is worthy of a final place too. Israel Olatunde hasn’t been firing but came alive in Munich 2 years ago at these and if he can get back to those times then a final is a realistic.

Rhasidat, Mageean and relays are realistically the only medal prospects for Paris so I’ll be amazed if many of the above haven’t been targeting these as their main seasons goal. All kicks off next Friday. It should be great.

Duplantis going for a new world record in pole vault - 6.25. Failed on first two attempts but good chance be nails it.

Way over but clipped it on way down.

Sedjiati lays down another marker for Paris 800m. He has wonderful speed. 1.43.23. Fastest time in world this year in windy conditions
