Huge move for Conor Kelly who’s heading to Texas to presumably train under Coach Flo in University of Texas.
That’s Kilmacud Crokes for you.
Andrew Coscoran going now in a 3000m in Miami, part of the Grand Slam series
Coscoran wins a very slowly-run race. 25.78 last 200m to get up on the line
Goes again in the 5000 on Monday
Sunday I think. Fair play to him. That win is worth a few quid
12x100m
Finishes 3rd in the 5000m this evening which is amazing for him. $50k for his weekend efforts. To put that in context, the top Sports Ireland grant is €40k per annum.
The lad who won the 400m last night drives a UPS Van to pay his way as he has no shoe deal. He ran sub 44 so I’d say he won’t be long waiting for one.
The crowds mightn’t be buying into Michael Johnson’s dream but the above 2 examples alone show the value it can create. And it went in competition against a Diamond League in China which had a bunch of US athletes running in it. Competition isn’t always a bad thing.
Irish mixed relay just qualified for Tokyo. 2nd in their heat. Final tomorrow to compete for World Relay Medal. Behind USA who’ll be favourites.
Women finish third without Rhasidat and Sharlene so won’t run in the final but likely qualify tomorrow with those back in the quartet. They’ll likely sacrifice a mixed medal to ensure the ladies qualify.
Men’s finish 6th so have to try qualify tomorrow.
Race here. Great run
Rhasidat only ran a 50.42 leg, very slow for her. The changeover appeared very laboured so hopefully that’s all it was down to.
All the women have Sony and all the men have Seiko. Must be the way the sponsorship runs
You’d never know what training she is at now. She’s not aiming to peak now anyway. But yeah you’d hope she’d be under 50 consistently
Irish women up now shortly
Sophie to Rhasidat to Rachel McCann to Sharlene. I’d say they should win this heat. Phil Healy probably going with the mixed relay
