Used to work with an old Clare lad called Mick Hanrahan. Lived in Penrith. Emigrated in ‘67. Hadn’t lost the pace of speech, or twang. Quite the contrary, he coloured it even more indecipherable by adding an aussie lilt.
We’d be traveling long of a Sunday to ruralj jobs. Mudgee, Gundagai etc…and me trying to hold the laughing in when he’d ask a local if he was on the right road to his destination and the absolute look of bewilderment on their faces at this rapid machine gun dialect in what they half-suspected, half-doubted was english and he’d call everyone of them a dickhead when they’d ask him to repeat himself for the third time before he’d drive off in frustration.

Penrith used to be where the Irish lads who were in Australia to earn money rather than act the cunt lived

Penrith had a fairly large Tyrone contingent iirc when I lived in Burwood.

it boils my blood when southerners retire to Qld

Is QLD the Florida of the Antipodes, full of old people and creatures that kill you?

it defo seems to be more prevalent in recent years, southerners moving up
