Aussie Rules 2014
Given that Kildare’s Daniel Flynn only left a contract with Port Adelaide a month ago to return home, why the fuck would he be attending this?

Tadhg Kennelly is overseeing another AFL training camp in London today and some of the GAA’s best young talents are in his sights.

Kildare quartet Daniel Flynn, Paddy Brophy, Sean Hurley and Luke Flynn are all taking part in the camp this week and will line out for the European Legion side against Australian teenagers in a trial match played in front of AFL scouts on Saturday.

Others who are attending the trial, with a view to making the transition to professional sport, include Tyrone’s Conor McKenna, Ciaran O’Hanlon of Armagh, Kerry’s Padraig Lucey, Stephen Coen of Mayo, Tipperary’s Colin O’Riordan and Peter Cooke (Galway).

“We’re really looking forward to the week,” Kennelly told The Irish Examiner. "Spending the time together to train alongside the best young players from Australia is a new and exciting opportunity.

"It’s going to accelerate their skills and show us who can handle the pressure best, not to mention the time the AFL club recruiters will get to watch and speak with them.

“The players will go back to their countries with a better idea of life as a professional athlete and they can share what they’ve learned with their team-mates. Long term it all helps to grow the game in Europe.”
Makes little sense, why would an AFL team waste their time with him. They even have stopped taking Western Aussies to Melbourne unless they are particularly talented and/or mature as the return rate is very high. Says alit about the difference between WA and the rest of Oz. NT seems to be similar, but that’s pretty particular to Indigenious kids who seem to struggle away from home no matter where they go.

Fucking Aussies

This is fucked up shit… you can see the player losing consciosness and he still chokes him. Only a 4 game ban.

fairly fucked up alright. although he was probably helped by Petrie who said he didnt lose consciousness and put his hands down by his side to more or less I’m not fighting back.

"I’m OK with it. (It’s a) physical game, things happen in games,’’ Petrie said.
“We both got up and played on and no one was hurt … we managed to have a bit of a tussle there for a moment and got up and got on with the game.’

not sure if I would be as accommodating if some prick did that to me on the field. Petrie is a great player and sounds like a decent sort from what I hear of him in his media stuff. he does a weekly podcast through the AFL which comes out on a Wednesday so may listen to what he said about the incident now that the charges have been laid.

Obviously wanted to play up to the manly code of the game, but choking someone while they are pinned down aint manly. Lake will surely have a target on his back now?

you clearly misunderstand the Aussie male psyche. They are retarded. Myself and another coach pointed out to one player last year how much energy he was wasting getting involved with the usual shite they go on with, pushing and digging and he called “soft foreigners”. Thats the kind of stupidity you are dealing with.

if you think the defence of Suarez had any comparisons, he’s actually brought up in this case. Some Hawks fans think Petrie should have been the one suspended and not Lake.

as Kev says though, they love the stereotypical hardman and flash back to older generations and think the game is being sanitized by punishing these kind of acts.

ya except few of them realise what a real hard man is.

Sydney Swans taking on Carlton at the SCG here. Swans lead 42-35 at half time. NRL atmosphere was definitely better. Tuohy playing quite well for Carlton.

Total blitz from the Swans in Q3 as they won it 74-1 to lead 106-36 at the last break. Buddy running amok.

if you havent already heard @caoimhaoin , Ciaran Sheehan is making his debut this weekend for Carlton. Its being shown live on ESPN here too so will be interesting to see how he goes.

excellent game on here tonight, Geelong & Freo, serious intensity

@Gman

astonishing end

Nate Fyfe is a remarkable sportsman.

Some finish. Fair play to Freo, they just never gave up on it at all. Very unlucky not to steal the win. If there is one side Freo don’t fear, it’s Geelong. They’ve done them over there a few times, and Mundy really should have ensured it there again.

Don’t think Freo have enough to win it out tho. Hawthorn and Sydney look far too strong for them. Port Adelaide have really dropped off form too.

Sheehan did well today too. Got a lot of ball considering he was in defense against a poor side. Kicked very well

Are they poor? They are higher than Carlton. Obviously they arfe lesser a side without Abblett, however they have some of the best young talent.

Anyway he seemed to go well alright, fair play to him, well deserved.

they are on a seriously bad slide. think they have lost 5 of their last 8. They also have never won a game Ablett hasnt played for them

So finals are here and the annual Geelong Hawthorn clash kicks it off. Scott reckons the first half showing they put in against them 2 weeks back is enough to show they can beat him. I’m not so sure, considering that Hawthorn smashed them in the second half. Its hard to see past Hawthorn in this one, but Geelong are always the team that catches them.

Sydney will beat Freo at home. Freo had a tough last game to stay in the top 4, and to travel east, I dont think they’ll turn over the Swans especially with some key injuries to them.

North and Essendon will be a tight one. I think Essendon are pretty lucky to have made the 8, and they dont look a great side. North though are the most infuriating team out there, they beat Hawthorn, then lose to Brisbane. They are so inconsistent. When they play well, they are capable of matching the top sides. They are a better team than Essendon and should win.

Port Adelaide will beat Richmond at home too. Richmond have had a miraculous run to make the 8, and only for scraping past half a Sydney side in the last round, they wouldnt have been in. Port are excellent at home, and despite their recent bad form, they should beat the tigers. The fact that the AFL are making Port change their jerseys as they clash with Richmond, as Richmond are one of the big teams who somehow dont need to have a proper clash jersey, is upsetting a lot of fans, so I’d expect a raucus crowd to be behind them

Good finish in store in hawks port game. Hawks looked to have had it sealed up by 28 a few minutes ago, but only ten in it now with 4 left

And hawks win by 3. Port had a kick to win it but just missed. Hope you listened to me and didn’t make that bet @Fitzy
