You take issue with Federer only winning 4 Grand Slams since 2008 after the age of 27. Nadal has won one Grand Slam since reaching the same age in 2013 and is now reduced to losing to journeymen like Rosol, Fognini, Dustin Brown and Verdasco in the early round of Slams.
You haven’t. Djokovic is now on for his 5th of 9 slams since turning 27. All you have done is duck the issue that since Djokovic and Nadal popped up and started challenging Federer, they have totally and utterly dominated him.
You had to resort to stats before this period to try and challenge the issue. The period is when Nadal brought his game to all surfaces and Djokovic started winning slams and since that period they have decimated Federer. That’s a fact and it breaks your little toff heart.
The simple fact is that Federer has won the most important tournament of them all the Championship a record equalling 7 times. If you throw in the three lesser Grand Slams he has a record haul of 17.
What’s breaking your little heart is that at 29, Nadal is all washed up. Now that he doesn’t have the physical or attritional capabilities any more to grind opponents into the ground, he can’t even make it to the second week of a Grand Slam.
Wimbledon is not the most important tournament of them all. It is the most patronisingly twee of them all but requires the least amount of skill, mettle or craft to win. It is for the big serving dinosaurs.
Fucking Nadal this and Nadal that. Nadal is a busted flush at 29.
Going on what I have seen Raonic will be the guy to take over from Djokovic. I like the way he said that this year his aim is to win a slam. He had Murray on the ropes today and reckon he had a good chance of winning that match today if he hadn’t have got injured. Hopefully its not too serious and we see him really threaten the top 5.
Dimitrov has lost his way and has regressed. Kyrgios is a one hit wonder, he will be dangerous and will cause upsets but that’s it. Goffin doesn’t have the power to trouble other players. Tomic is a waster. Thiem might do something.
As someone whose opinion of tennis I treat with the highest regard, which grand slam do you consider to have the most prestige and requires the greatest skill to win?
