Whelan has pulled out of Tuesday’s fixture.
Great opportunity for Paul Green…
Stephen Quinn has been called up to replace Whelan.
Paul Green, sweet Jesus. Then again if you are a Trap favourite you are a Trap favourite.
Wilson will be lucky if he avoids being dropped, he (like almost everyone else admittedly) was woeful on Friday night. In his favour he has little enough competition for left back.
I’d consider playing Walters up front with Robbie and bringing Brady onto the wing. Spring Long from the bench as the Austrians get tired.

We don’t really have anyone better for a 4 man midfield without Gibson. Meyler maybe. Green is unlikely to be worse than McCarthy was on Friday.
A lot of the people saying Paul Green is shit have never seen him play I’d say. I’ve seem him play a few times for Ireland and I think he is a decent player to be honest. Better than Whelan anyway. John Giles’ analysis is getting worse by the day. I’d be surprised if Giles has seen Green play 5 times. I also read Giles articles in the Herald last week and they are absolutely terrible as he was on off the ball.
Green certainly seems a bit more defensively and tactically switched on than Whelan and also more mobile. Chippy Brady is the only one out of that lot who talks any sense.
Wilson’s response on RTE news about Trap’s tactics was classic. I imagine it’ll be on Reeling in the Years in time to come.
What did he say?
The question was whether the players understood the tactics/knew what they were supposed to be doing…or something along those lines.
His answer: “…(10 seconds)…eeeemmmmmm…(15 seconds)…eeeeeehhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh…that’s a good question…ehhhhhhhhhhhhh…I suppose as much as we can understand…Yeah.”
(or something very close to that)
Giles’s analysis of McCarthy before the Sweden game was spot on.

Thats a pretty good summation of it. Quite a way of saying something very pointed, while saying fuck all at the same time.
Wilson will get the road again I’d say.
He’d be no loss after the other night the thick cunt.
I’d say the players know at this stage that they don’t have to stay on Trap’s good side for too much longer.
Forde, Coleman, O’Shea, Dunne, Wilson, Walters, Green, McCarthy, Pilkington, Keane, Long.
Wilson wouldn’t understand tactics the useless clumsy bastard.
What did he say?
Green and Picklington in for Whelan and McClean. If we beat this crowd we will qualify.
Disappointed not to see Robbie Brady in there. If we lose this without Robbie Brady then I won’t be supporting Trap beyond the 2028 campaign.
