Aviation Disasters

Every day this week we had different countries claiming that their satellites had located debris in the original search area. One country claimed to have spotted over 200 pieces of debris, yet not a single item has been recovered and now the search area has been moved to a completely different area. They are running out of time to locate the black box too. This has been a total cluster fuck of an operation. Someone knows something, but are holding back the information.

it gives me very little pleasure horsebox.
call it a 6th sense, or just an unrivalled aeronautical acumen, but i had a hunch something like this wasnt going to end well.

for all we have given to aviation we still feel the pain acutely when things go wrong.

the skies like the seas horsebox can be a cruel and unforgiving mistress. that is why i admire those on the international business trip thread so much.

Still no sign. Looks like it will never be found and the authorities don’t have a scooby doo where it went.

Please God it’ll crash land into Thomond Park tomorrow.

I will be flying over the South Indian Ocean in about ten hours. I will look to secure a window seat to add my eyes to the search effort.

Reports a plane flying from Brisbane to Bali was hijacked have now been downgraded by the commentators on the Roosters game on setanta, the latest being that a drunk, possibly love struck passenger tried to force his way into the cockpit and the pilot landed because of it.

Is TWCB no longer living the dream and sick of eating Tim tams?..Or has Sid begun his plan to woo his special lady by grabbing her attention in style?

So still no sign of this?

was it shot down mate? The Ruskies maybe?

It’s being reported as shot down, statement due from Malaysian Airlines soon.

It was also reported earlier that Russia had shot down a Ukraine warplane.

All signs at this stage would suggest the Russians shot it down. That’ll escalate that conflict anyway.

Not a great year for Malaysian airlines.

Never a good day when you miss the runway.

Thank fuck we have someone on the forum who is an expert in both Russia and Aviation

Too early to say that. We have no idea how many of their planes will crash in the second half of the year. It’s been a poor start though.

We’re blessed in that respect.

Has anyone dared utter the word “untoward” yet? Surely not.

my sources have told me it was the ukranians that did this, the russian rebels dont have the technology to do this

major own goal by the fascist government in the ukraine.

a word of warning to the forum, beware of western media spin

Malaysian airlines are finished

A Malaysian passenger plane with 295 people on board has been shot down as it flew above eastern Ukraine, according to aviation sources.

The plane, which is believed to have been flying from Amsterdam to Kuala Lumpur, was travelling at an altitude of 10km (6.2 miles) when it was shot down, Russia’s Inferfax reported.

It was brought down by a ground-to-air missile, an adviser to the Ukrainian interior ministry quoted by the news agency said.

A spokesman for Malaysian Airlines confirmed “an incident” involving one of its flights and is expected to release a statement shortly.

The aircraft involved is believed to be a Boeing 777 with flight number MH17, which departed from Amsterdam at 12.14am local time.

Sky’s Katie Stallard, in Moscow, said media reports suggest the plane came down in an area where there has been recent heavy fighting amid continuing tensions between Russia and Ukraine.

Video apparently filmed in the area, which Sky News has not been able to independently verify, shows plumes of thick, black smoke rising high into the air.
