Aviation Disasters

Useless trivia.

39 years and 354 days ago (that’s 40 years less 11 days) an Air India plane blew up off Cork.

It happened at 8:15am on the morning of a Leinster hurling semi-final between Kilkenny and Offaly. This match finished in a 3-18 to 3-18 draw.

I have a very vague memory of this. The bomb, not the hurling.

1985 was a doozy of a year for major air crashes.

Over 200 bodies recovered

The emergency workers getting some work done while also taking photos of the crash site and sending them to the press

Indians love filming the deaths of people and then putting it up on the INTERNET.

It’s one of their proudest traditions.

He jumped? :exploding_head: People at the front are statistically least likely to survive a plane crash. Now I’d say the stats are slim wherever you sit.

He survived but unfortunately his naan didn’t make it

I’ll get my coat

Racist, trivialising death. I like it.

Without watching all of that, it seems to strongly suggest deliberate pilot action and/or error leading to the crash?

Ya sounds like self sabotage suicide by one of the pilots, problem is there is a pile of ways to do that when a plane is in it’s critical phase of flight in take off and landing. The fuel cut off switches are impossible to switch off by accident, it took 10 seconds to throw them back on but there is a lag in turbo powered engines waiting for it to spool up for thrust, going to be some amount of resources poured into the mental health of pilots now and paranoia amongst the crews not used to each other will be common place.

This might sound very stupid but why would the pilot be able to cut fuel to both engines so easily?

It’s there in case of fire.

A US pilot in the jump seat was off his face on drugs and did it to “wake himself up” a few years ago. Others caught it in time then

Thank you.

I’m going to go out on a whim and suggest there was foul play at work and the pilots will be blamed.

If it came out publicly that somebody had the ability to take down commercial airliners from the ground it would cause consternation.

I just can’t see one pilot saying I didn’t do that if he was actually planning on killing a plane load of people.

:upside_down_face: it is their pilots that need inspection
