Sitting here in Edinburgh airport which is in lockdown as the Bomb Squad examine a suspect package. Looks like I’m here for the night.

Go mad on the beer

They’ve shut the bars and have us all gathered at one end of the terminal

Should have taken the :ferry: like you normally do

Shutting the bars will help with any explosion

Update: At one in the morning we were ejected from the airport and led out to a crowded roundabout and left to our own devices. I asked a policewoman what we were to do next and she shrugged as if to say it wasn’t her problem. There was a Moxy hotel on the roundabout and I and many others went in there. Needless to say there wasn’t a room to be had. There was a thing called the Royal Highland Show on nearby and the hotel was full of drunk farmers and now irritated travellers looking for a place to charge the phone and rest the head. It was beginning to look like below decks on a coffin ship.

Sometime around 3 am the message came through from Ryanair that the flight was cancelled and basically you’re on your own now Sonny and best of luck getting home.
Luckily I hadn’t taken a nap and I was on hand to find a flight from Glasgow that leaves around lunchtime on an Aer Lingus turbo prop. I got an uber from Edinburgh airport to Glasgow airport and here I sit whiling away the hours until my flight.

I’ve been that soldier/sailor, Fagan.

A very distressing experience but we both survived.

How was Edinburgh anyway?

Lovely city but wet.

Yeah was there this time last year.

Did you make it back in one piece @Fagan_ODowd?

Sending hugs.

That set you back a bit.
Tough break.

Further update. Home. Bollixed. But home.

As an observation that Ryanair digital pass only thing is a recipe for social unrest in these scenarios. Before the flight was cancelled but while it was still hanging by a thread after a delay of some four or five hours people were resorting to all sorts of dark arts and menace so they could keep a dribble of charge in their phone so the boarding pass could be scanned. I myself turned at one stage to see that a young lady had surreptitiously unplugged my phone to charge her own without so much as a by your leave. French of course. She tried the owl :owl: tears on me but I told her she had ten minutes to get as much charge into her phone as she could and that would be it.

I know you’re a thousand times better travelled than me. But I have to refer you to my post in the Ryanair thread.

You don’t need a phone. It’s handy, but you don’t need it.

Heard a turboprop flying overhead there at this hour of the night; being the nosey fucker that I am, I went onto flightradar and noted it took off from Abbeyleix Demesne cc @thelaoisklaxon

Sure enough, John Collison is an aviation enthusiast, has his pilot’s licence and there is an airstrip on the grounds of the estate for his private use. Looks like he is lining up a landing in Shannon; probably flying a hooker back to Vegas or something from Shannon on a more salubrious Bombardier G700.

I’m so jealous of people who can do that. Flying must be incredible

If it crashes be sure to get back to us with the good news.
