BDO World Professional Darts Championships 2014

Five sleeps away, under normal conditions.

But the question is, will darts fans be able to sleep five times between now and Saturday with the excitement and anticipation?

Sadly Jason Cullen failed to qualify this year but the Wexford man’s exploits last year will never be forgotten, remembered in song and in story (below) by darts fans all over Ireland.

Let’s hope Michael Meaney can do Ireland proud on the biggest and most famous stage in all of darts.

Dancing at the Lakeside (to the tune of Dancing at the Crossroads)

Well I remember as a young boy
The first Saturday of '13
We were standing at the station
Waiting for a train

There was English darting brothers
There was fathers, sisters, mothers
There was Belgians, Dutch and others
But everyone was just the same

Well they came from Enniscorthy
From New Ross and Ferns and Gorey
There was buses from Bunclody
They were Irish darts fans all

And when they stepped out on the platform
In a Surrey town called Frimley
And as they carried Jason Cullen
He looked twenty-five feet tall

And then we took our seats at Lakeside
The best of five sets it would decide
And when big Jason’s hand was lifted
He said I did it all for you

We were dancing at the Lakeside,
In the shadow of the bullseye
Underneath the purple stagelights
We were singing until dawn,
We were dancing at the Lakeside,
With the poteen and the porter,
Dancing jigs and reels and polkas
Until the early morn

What an informative post @Sidney .

Great news - a few tickets are still available for this year’s completely sold out tournament.

Wonderful stuff, cant wait

The original and the best.

There must be incredible excitement in Kilkenny in advance of Michael Meaney’s Lakeside debut, Piles?

Huge excitement Sid, the same sort of pride rippling through the county as when Davy Morris made his bow at the crucible a couple of years back.

Martin Adams talking about the pain of his divorce on BBC 1 at the moment. What a warrior.

He has had such a hard time of it

But he’s emerged as a stronger person.

Is he a better darts player though?

The next 9 days at The Lakeside will tell the tale.

Never liked that sharon one

+1. A war criminal. Good to hear he’s on the verge of death at the moment.

World Champion Scotty Waites v Alan Norris opens this years’s championship. What a tie.

#woof

Sensational scenes at the home of darts - Trina Gulliver has been eliminated from the Ladies championship, beaten 2-0 by Tamara Schuur.

A swift exit for the giant of the ladies game Gulliver and she’ll be on her travels home presently.
