This one could fit in under annoying habits I suppose but I m in the humor for new threads so here goes…
So where do people stand on the moral dilema that is an apparently poverty stricken person sitting on the side of the street begging?
They’re in every town and city in every country of the world, but what to do?
Got an interesting one tonight in a restaurant, she came in and canvassed every table in the place, securing a few shekels for herself in the first place. I didn’t contribute, getting myself an absolute filthy from her. Had some sort of copy for the contributors to sign. Strange.
Generally now I give nothing, used to give some dosh to em when I was a green first year until I was walking along the Green one day with a fellow freekicker, gave my 50p to the begger upon which my comrade launched into a tirade about the economic upturn and opportunites blah de balh until the poor cooont nearly gave me back my 50p. I think that out burst swung it for me.
I heard an interesting story about a begger in Dublin. You may have seen him on College Green playing the tin whistle with his head completely buried in his coat. Apparently that guy owns three houses.
That story put off giving anything to beggers ever
Must say I never give anything to people who come up to you in a pub or restaurant or whatever looking for cash. Sometimes if I see a poor bloke who looks properly down and out then I might give him a few quid. Big fan of the two lads who busk outside Tara Street on a Friday morning by the way. One of them looks like he might be homeless but they’re a cracking trad combo.
