The Tipperary captain was Willie Ryan that year. Conor OâMahony led Tipp out. Willie came on with five minutes left and did fuckall. That was the last year of the captain coming from county champions. Sheedy campaigned for it to be ended, and Eoin Kelly was captain the following two seasons.

Maybe thatâs who Iâm thinking of. I definitely remember some Kilkenny captain in tracksuit bottoms and a jersey lifting a trophy. Brian Hogan wasnât a sub the year he captained them was he? Or was he taken off early with an injury?
