Where you rank Antonio Cassano in comparison to Messi?
Cassano, for me, is the greatest waste of his generation. He was driven out of every club he played with due to his volatility and lack of professionalism. He blew every chance he was given and inevitably let down his managers time and time again - he was still a very likable character though as he just couldn’t help himself.
But what a player, hands down he had the best touch and control of a football I have ever seen and he could do and see things that no other play could. He was an absolute joy to watch and the understanding he forged with Totti while at Roma was something else, just a shame it didn’t last any longer. Also a shame they only had one international tournament together and that was marred by Totti picking up a ban in the opening group match that effectively ended his tournament.

Nobody does off the cuff things like Cassano did in the modern game. Footballers are all very formulaic now, it’s a poor era.

Everything is scripted nowadays. It’s all very sad. The only thing that connects clubs to their areas nowadays is their stadiums and that’s beginning to change nowadays too.
