Best Albums Of 2011

  1. Beady Eye - Different Gear, Still Speeding
  2. Noel Gallagher - Noel Gallagher’s High Flying Birds

That is all.

A Bluenote compilation album, a Chet Baker album and a Miles Davis album.

No jumping the shark there pal. They are all the epitome of cool. In my book at least. What Miles Davis album was it?

You must’ve caught Chet playing Café Wha? in New York around the early '50s, Fagan?

I played Bandage his first PJ Harvey track. Glad the flame still burns for him.

Farmer - have you heard the new Bonnie Prince Billy album yet?

How do you know this?

Because I misread a post on the previous page. Apologies - form your own opinion and let us know.

Sadly not Thraw. The most notable jazz gig I saw was Sun Ra in Rome 1980

It’s just a three CD combo called The Real Miles Davis, been a really good listen so far.

Good primer.

Some very good tracks on it Fitzy but overall not a patch on the last album

Agree with that. There’s one in particular that’s great but I haven’t returned to this album at all.

I’m telling ye, M83 is the album you want to get a hold of. Fucking sublime. It sounds like My Bloody Valentine jamming with Level 42

I’ll check it out Fran, cheers

I liked the Decemberists - The King is Dead as well. Its very REM in parts, which isn’t surprising considering Peter Buck plays on it. The nod to Planxty is good as well.

[/quote]saw them supporting the Kings of Leon. They were top class.

Having taken Thraws recommendation I can now confirm my three albums of the year as follows

1 Kate Bush 50 words for Snow.
2 M83 Hurry Up We Are Dreaming
3 Mastodon The Hunter

Kate Bush

Outstanding effort from the Portlaw girl

Watched her 1979 Xmas TV Special on Youtube last night. Her dancing to Them Heavy People is possibly the hottest thing I’ve ever seen. I’ll have to get that new album.
