I’m looking to expand my spotify playlist.
If you were making an album of the best Irish songs, say 14 or so, preferably with a more traditional feel in large part, what would you all recommend?
I’m discounting U2 as the cunt Bono after spending 2 decades trying to be a yank, has decided he is Dutch after all.
I am omitting Thin Lizzy, as they could fill all 14, and are more classic rock types.
At present, in no particular order I’d have sum at like:
Before the Deluge. Moving hearts.
No time for love. Moving Hearts.
The Belltable. Stocktons Wing
A rainy night in Soho. Damian Dempsey.
Delicate. Damian Rice.
Wildflower. The 4 of us.
Thousands are sailing and Body of an American. The Pogues.
This Is. Aslan.
The Lakes of Pontchartrain. Paul Brady.
The long grass. The little fish.
Mcilhatton maybe, Christy Moore.
Can’t think of anything else just yet.
B*Witched - Blame it on the weatherman
I fucking knew someone would come up with that. I have it already.
Stocktons Wing - Beautiful Affair
Dubliners / Luke Kelly - Rare Oul Times
The Band Played Waltzing Matilda - Pogues
Morning Morning - Corner Boy
Agree with the first. Now added. Played out the second. Never heard of the third, will try now. Thanks.
The Raggle taggle Gypsy Oh. And bin “the deluge” for fucks sake.
Edit, grand tune. Also added true north, cold love and ghost town (iirc)
Have you heard Roll Alabama by bellowhead? I think you’d like it.
No.
Waterboys are jocks.
Otherwise I’d have three or four.
There are nonWaterboy versions.
The ferryman by Gaelic Storm
Sharon Shannon - Munster Hop
Sincere apologies. In my usual ignorance, I always thought that the waterboys had written that.
I did hear mike Scott described as a “professional Irishman” once on radio 2.
Lonesome Boatman by The Fureys.
“Tortoises from Tenerife and Ties from Timbuktu”
C’est la vie
Great tune. Added. Thanks.
Added.
