I’d add that Lemond himself said that he couldn’t compete with riders on EPO.
He did. That’s why he retired sure. Fellas were winning races like the Giro that wouldn’t climb over a railway bridge.
But Kelly wasn’t. David Walsh was pretty clear on this. Walsh had some bizarre logic on it when challenged, that what Kelly took made you the best rider you could be, and EPO made a completely new rider.
Nobody pointed out that the only reason Kelly didn’t take epo was he most likely wasn’t aware of it.
It’s all supposition, but what they always said about epo is that on it, the big men could climb.
Different people respond differently though
